Not weaker? Lets just evaluate. Baxter, freebie, Trafford, 19 million. Baxter looks a solid signing though. Cogley, played most of his career in the bottom division, Bradley, Northern Ireland international. Forrester, potential apparently, but not the finished article. Johnston, out all season MJ Williams gone Kieran Lee, gone Toal, injured. How are we not weaker?

July 11, 20233 yr Wouldn’t say we are significantly weaker But we’re definitely not stronger. Couple of signings can change that though

July 11, 20233 yr Popular Post We’ve lost 2 of our starting 11, both players that weren’t ours. 1 we’ve replaced with about a good an option as we could have possibly imagined. Anyone quoting losing “a £19m player” - what difference does that make, unless we spend £20m on a keeper then it’s always going to be the case, he was a failed Accy Stan keeper before he came to us. The other we still haven’t replaced. Any mention of losing MJ, Lee etc. is pointless - it’s our decision because they weren’t good enough and they generally didn’t play. We’ve lost Johnston to injury but gained Iredale (who I’m still convinced is a better fit for a LCB in our system but completely an unproven theory). We’ve got rid of Kachunga but have JDB back. AND STILL WE HAVE A MONTH AND A HALF OF A TRANSFER WINDOW LEFT. It’s like being halfway through building a house and someone going “that looks shit”. Well yeah, its not finished it yet, it’s not even got a roof or windows for fuck sake, what a stupid comment. Come back when it’s finished and then see what you think. Off season is mad, bring on Lincoln and people can start moaning about our keeper passing to our centre backs again.

I agree still plenty time to sign players, but with regards to Lee and Williams not playing, Lee played in 23 games, and MJ, 22, so to say they hardly ever played is incorrect. Evatt as always said he likes to get things done early, unfortunately, for one reason or another, its not happened. Very important 6/7 weeks coming up. Edited July 11, 20233 yr by woolli more info

In that time we have to sign someone, bring them upto fitness (might not have touched a ball in 3/4 months) at the same time we have to get them familar with our tactics and formation etc. Which can take months to do, you can't just sign someone the day before a game and expect them to slide right in. At the moment we're totally lacking 2/3: Strength upfront, flair and a Roy Keane type. We seem totally insistent on walking every goal into the back of the net atm, it's totally predictable.

Strength upfront? We have 5 strikers on the books. Anyone expecting a new one will be disappointed.

July 11, 20233 yr Think most of us are a little bit worried atm as we are weak in a few areas especially midfield and I reckon we need another CB now Johnstone out for the season due to the formation we play with. My real worry is strikers I just have no confidence in Dan , Vic and Jerome to provide goals and if Bod gets injured we are struggling . Portsmouth and Derby have strengthened well and they will be after top 2. Time will tell IE and Markham will get it right fingers crossed.
July 11, 20233 yr IE and Sharon know where we're up to. They will have players lined up. If we are working on the assumption that they are almost match fit, and I am, I reckon it's more likely to be more loanees. But too notch ones again. In Sharon we trust. Not touched a ball for 3/4 months ! Where do you think we are looking at getting these signings ? You do know that other teams are also doing pre season dont you? 'Months to learn the tactics' if that's the case then they are in the wrong profession Are you a wind up?
July 11, 20233 yr Roll to Santos, Roll nack to Keeper, Roll back to Santos, Roll back to Keeper, Roll back to Santos, Ping to Dempsey, Ping to Wing Back, watch him cut inside and give to Vic/JDB/Dan who then tries to put Charles in. That cant take 3 months to learn Shirley

July 11, 20233 yr Maybe blind faith but staying hopeful that we’ll get 1 or 2 top drawer loans in over the next month from City and/or Liverpool once they’ve sorted their squads out. Given the great job we did last year with Traff & Bradley why wouldn’t they trust us with another unpolished diamond?

A ton of people on here say our Jan signings will be better after a full preseason, you make the comment about new players needing this preseason to perform their best and people talk as if you're mental. Either they're both true or neither are.

I'd be very surprised if we don't get fixed up with a couple of PL loan players that are highly regarded in their own systems by the end of the window. Obviously would prefer the Bradley end of the scale to Shoretire. We've shown we can be trusted to develop and support them, but it's still always a gamble chucking them into real football for the first time.
July 11, 20233 yr I guessed shoretire would return end of the season I think chances are still high Go on, tell me hes playing top level farmers next year!
