The left side is rather urgent now as the days tick by, for me nail this position and we’re ready to go we can add prem loans later

LWB this season will be Williams and a Premier League loan. Don't be surprised if Iredale starts season there, as PL loan might be late August and Williams similar.

This Max Conway seems to be being given a chance at LWB in the friendlies & played a lot of games on loan in the National league last season.

I've no idea how good he is, has anyone seen him ? It would be great to bring through one of our own.

He got into some good  positions on Tuesday but his final ball was poor. Might turn out to be decent as he’s given more playing time.

However, we surely can’t wait 6+ weeks for some kind of attacking threat down the left?

Williams was forecast to be out for 3 months, Iredale isn’t a LWB and Conway’s still learning.

We have a lot of games to get through in the first couple of months.

Intrigued when this interview with Iles was.

I don't think the impact will be huge in one sense. Our club are pretty good at valuing players and sticking to their guns on that value. So, i don't expect it will lead to us paying inflated prices.

However, it's a big statement to put out to fans. My understanding had been there'd be no big claims or statements this season - this is contrary to that very early on. Naturally, it increases expectation and sets Evatt / the club up for a fall. I like Evatt as a manager, and i like a lot of what the club do. Must admit this leaves me feeling a little uneasy and I hope it doesn't bring unnecessary pressure on him

One thing I would say - bids will be in but you can be sure chats will also have taken place with agents too. McAtee and Dembele will be interested in coming here, or the club would have silenced those rumours by now.

You clearly have some kind of link / in with the club and I was really liking the sound of the reduced big statements as I think it’s one of his biggest downsides. He says things he doesn’t need to, I think he does it with the view that it builds positivity but in reality, as you mention, it just builds expectation within an irrational group of people (football fans in general, not negatively labelling Bolton fans) and sets himself up for a fall.

The fact that he is already getting excited and putting some relatively big quotes out there, factually correct or not, suggests he’s not learning his lesson and just can’t help himself - which is a slight concern considering there’s a wider view of his ability to adapt and learn from mistakes

All getting a bit tiresome these articles throwing out exciting players that we are after for big money and nothing actually happening.

Same every window. Only a matter of time till BWFC post a 👀 on twitter, and everyone will be boarding HMS Piss the League again.

That posh chairman said on wireless there's always a delay after a euros/copy and obviously we have the Olympics.

Clubs haven't got their first team sqauds in yet. That means the loan market is fucked as they are all being used for tours and friendlies.

That inturn fucks our level up as nobody knows who they can bring in on loan etc.

I agree with you! I'm not one for negativity (rarely serves any purpose) and I'm irritatingly rational, so don't get too hung up on these statements. As you say, many fans will.

Evatt is clearly an emotional fella (I don't know him but seen enough of him to know this). It's not a criticism but i think there's an impulsiveness there that I hope he learns to manage.

To address your point, I get bits of info. However, would never shout about being ITK. Anything i hear comes from a couple of secondary sources rather than the primary source.

Just throwing a random name in like Jamie Reid who would be affordable/desperate to come here and would IMO improve our striker options this season but wouldn't tick the "championship" box.

i get its justa name, but on him specifically, he's so good hes still at stevenage, prob on a grand a week??

even evans hasnt signed him

anyway, time yet, might get a move

Yes it was just an eg, and when I say he'd probably improve the squad, it might just be as a 4th option replacing Jerome effectively (but an upgrade on Dan if we get a proven L1 forward).  General point just being there are above average L1 players we could potentially get with our bigger budget.  But happy to see what comes to fruition by 1st September.

I remember reading before he was appointed that he reads a lot of self-help/positive mindset books and one of the big themes was projecting confidence i.e. a kind of tricking yourself into a mindset thing

I think that's evident in his public statements

Best team in the league, keeping receipts, etc.

As you point out, though, all it seems to have done so far is set us up for a fall

At 2 am this morning I was starting to stress  about the situation and then lo and behold this article from Iles comes out.

The fact that he's announcing to the world we have decent money to spend at a time when we allegedly have active bids under consideration has probably left me more concerned that we might miss the boat than I was before TBH.

From what little I've seen of him, I like the look of Armstrong and think he'd be handy for us, but I'd be surprised if we were offering anything like a million for him, so hopefully that implies we have a few other irons in the fire.

But I can't get over Iles publishing that article. Dumb.

I'd have had a couple of big strong midfielder lads from the National League lined up at the end of May.

we have signed a few duds from the Premier League in the last couple of seasons and the good ones we do sign go back and we are at Square One again.

He's out injured for the first month of the season which could hinder a move

Who told thumb head about our initial interest in Dembele. Can’t imagine the club would tell him anything as he clearly can’t keep a secret

it's not a journos job to keep secrets to tbf

He has a vested interest in Bolton Wanderers and keeping connections to the club

that ship is well beyond the horizon

We don’t need squad players, we need players that are an improvement over what we already have.

Or we’re staying in this shit league again.

Yep. We go with the same again and only Lolos replacing Paris we've had it.
