Indeed, I know we're shopping in the bargain basement these days, but I'm not sure that I'm overly fussed on us missing out on a player that struggles to get in a Celtic team, and who has a less than remarkable goal scoring record in the League of Ireland (which lets be honest, really is poor)

I get in conversation virtually everyone would use the plural but once the FC is included it is singular. It is not an Americanisation. (Americanization?) . Collective nouns can be classed as singular or plural. 

Same way as Bolton Wanderers Football Club is a founder member of the Football League. 
But as the song goes ‘We are by far the greatest team the world has ever seen.’

It's just weird how plenty saw him as 'the one' .    Plenty better options i,m sure.

Both "is" and "are" are grammatically correct but using "is" and a transfer/new contract announcement is a fucking abomination

JSL move here was delayed till he signed a new contract at Chelsea before going out on loan. 
 

Clearly won’t be a permanent deal but a loan deal is still an option for now.

Yep. I’d say this contract announcement puts a potential loan move closer! I’d imagine SS will have clarity from Celtic now either way so he’ll know whether to wait or look elsewhere as we speak

Nah they didn’t string us along all summer. Clearly a deal could have been done and as someone else said. We’ve been used. I hope he enjoys his 13 mins against Livingston etc. 

Worth noting see the loan system as a necessary evil and one we are never likely to win at.
