We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

Appreciate Twitter is a small proportion of the fan base but finding the obsession over Kenny really bizarre.

Its genuinely nuts.

The entitled frothing at the mouth on there from the Nixon disciples is laughable. 'lack of ambition' 'naive' 'from Kenny to this', blah blah.

If we either can't afford Kenny, he doesn't want to come or Celtic aren't sure about letting him go (as was being indicated on the coverage of their game on Sunday), we move on.

Think last time we went up from League One it was said to be worth £6m to the club.

How many seasons would you have to go back before we've made that much on transfers?

Any return on investment the owners are looking for will only come when we get out of this league.

but every so often, theres some sense

Could Agadme and/or Burstow play alongside Dalby when he's fit? The Buff was talking about Burstow calling himself a "link up" striker so could possibly do the 10 to Dalby's 9.

If so they don't necessarily all have to fight for 1 spot

Yes, I think there's an assumption that we have a McAtee type at 10 and a Dalby type at 9 and that's it, so the "3 new strikers" all competing for one position.

I'm sure SS will have ways to get his preferred forwards on the pitch more often than not.  If that's McAtee so be it but its hardly revolutionary to imagine Dalby and another new striker playing together with one deeper than the other.  All the physicality and scoring potential, if that's what they have, would still be utilised.  And one on the bench to rotate as required.

I’m reading between the lines based on how Dalby was described at the bondholder event.

I agree it came across that the forward line was virtually being built around Dalby playing more often than not.

He was the first one through the door and I also got the impression he was going to be the main man. The injury has muddied the waters and no doubt been a big inconvenience in pre seaaon

If we aren't looking at getting promotion this season then I'm out.

Let me know if we ever get there coz i seriously CBA messing about in the stiffs any longer.

If you think that getting to the Championship is the the land of milk and honey you are mistaken

Us, Wigan, Derby, Reading , Sheff Wed and many more who are the there now can vouch for that.

It is a hard call to make which we cannot make, because we do not know FV plans if they get to the championship

We do not know if the Swiss will buy into the club further.  Or if other investors are interested......We have certainly changed  how we invest in players in and outside of the club.

I doubt there is a right answer but as supporters we all want promotion, but i also like to see how the club grows year on year

The Charlton N'lundulu has played 9 minutes of real league football since new year, we're going to need patience with him as well as Dalby who's missed a full pre-season highly doubt he'll hit the ground running either.

It's definitely very possible to totally bankrupt yourself in the Championship. But we're losing £10m+ a year as we are in League One.

Unless someone wants to fund that indefinitely, the only sustainable route to us making money is getting into a higher league. It's not coming from Thierry Gale's resale value. We've sold three players for more than £1m in 15 years.

Which bit?

Ah the highlighted bit.

Because he is excellent at running behind defenders, strong, quick with good control and finishing so would be good for us now and has the highest potential resale value of all our signings if he improves further.

He's scored a few goals in Ireland, the standard is non league fodder

Not just you, but plenty on EDL Craig's group are suggesting we just chuck a million quid at some kid who's been playing in Ireland like he's guaranteed to be this 15-20 goal a season man we need

It's all a bit dramatic

Not sure getting out the league is the main priority.....

it is, and it's been the clear stated aim of the club for the past 3 seasons

https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/25368604.steven-schumacher-potential-bolton-wanderers/

The first step of the journey has got to be trying to get out of this division,” he added. “I said that when I first came in January - that is the goal, to try and get out of League One.

Another topic on the agenda was the cup competitions and whether Schumacher’s sole focus will be on the league this season.

“I will be taking every game seriously, we think it is important to do that,” he explained. “You shouldn’t value one competition over the others.

Obviously, the main objective for the club is to try and achieve promotion - and we play the most games in the league - so you have to concentrate the most on them.

Winning games is the aim of football, so by default promotion and winning the league is the aim, each and every game, every season. even if you come up against a team that should smash you.

I said if they’d accepted our bid - which was £500k and would have been the steal I was talking about.

Also said his price is going up each time he plays in Europe.

Also said Im concerned that the negotiations may now have stopped, but was hoping for an agreement to be reached around about Collins money.

No drama here, just opinions.

This is the same Alan Nixon who said we had signed Fletcher of Wrexham !

If he plays in Europe

They've got two games before the window shuts

It's a gamble especially as they don't know who they will be playing

Champs league is far more lucrative than selling him to us

Would they sacrifice that by playing someone just to get a few more quid out of us, especially when he's probably down the pecking order?

nah, whilst it sounds simple, when we were in the PL our aim was never to win the PL

teams play for draws

plenty teams go away and park the bus to keep the score down and hoping not to concede or lose with no intention of mounting an attack

lots are looking to consolidate in the league they are in, because it's a level they can compete at, whilst promotion could happen, it'd have to be an oustanding season

etc

Seems people have not woken up to the fact that every signing we have done this close season are players who have shown glimpses of promise elsewhere and are not the finished player.

The management team wont come out with it, but these players are more for the future than now.

We are signing potential and tying them down to long contracts to develop them and sell on, not sure promotion is a priority.

Think I've heard this before somewhere..........

SS knows and (as above) has said it's about promotion. If it isn't achieved he'll expect the same scrutiny Evatt eventually had.

He and Fergal have brought in players they expect to add to the better ones of what we have and get us there.

If I'd one minor query in terms of things he's said but not yet done is bringing in a bit of experience. He did say a while ago the squad was too middling in it's age profile, not enough youth but not enough older heads either. He's certainly brought in some youth and (hopefully) energy, I wouldn't be averse to seeing an experienced head or two, as long as they were capable of holding down a place in the team as well as influencing the dressing room

i saw ryan woods was playing for oldham last night

I saw a tweet saying something similar earlier, but with all the focus on getting a forward in I am surprised there hasn't been more talk of Dale Taylor being on the radar seeing as he's available.

Sam Smith at Wrexham as well, now 3rd choice at best.

Sure that was a spoof account.
