We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

If the rumours are correct (QPR, PNE & Wycombe) then it's a good chance to get an auction going for Johnston, the lad was going to leave us on a free before his did his ACL so fetch in a get a decent fee for him before he looks to do it again. Get an older head in as a replacement to add some experience to the back line & solid a partner for Toal. Like most have said we have all these CB's yet nobody really knows who's the best two out of the lot because they're injury prone & inconsistent

Seems unlikely, haven’t we just made him one of the vice captains, doubt SS will have done that knowing there is a chance he’s off.

I think FootballInsider is pretty reliable as far as these things go

I've just seen someone suggest that if we did sell we won't need a replacement because we have Inwood 🤦‍♂️

he was world class the season he was out injured

Need a proper experienced CB in. Our defence was wank last season and I’m still not convinced this season

It's been said before

How official do you want transfer targets and bids to be?

Clubs don't announce anything but signings

I understand that, however there are sometimes comments made about bids being rejected, or waiting on favoured targets from managers or the club etc. Which can add weight to the rumour. We have had none that i can see.

Yet we have this wild narrative that has been created with £500k bids, million pound asking prices, players stringing us along, when it is all based on a report in a Scottish paper and Iles saying 'he is our preferred target'.

The only transfer that seemed to be rumoured a bit before it was announced officially was Gayle. Yet a sage on here confidently told us that it was all nonsense.

I am not really that bothered either way, seen his highlights on YouTube and he looks alright, in the Irish league. If he signs on loan I hope he does well, we desperately need a goalscorer and he may or may not be the solution. But the panic and anger is all a bit ridiculous.

We are top heavy on c/b  Taylor is not far a off being fit, Forrester to come back and Inwood to play the cup games

We are now only playing with 2 c/b unlike three in the past we can get away with off loading one.

If we can get a right back in the Taylor mold who can also play centre back we are more than covered at the back

Forrester is another one made of sugar paper

Agree with that

It's been looking like a loan for weeks, the signing of a new contract should not come as a surprise

I just hope we get him because he's the one they identified from the off

Someone like Adahme would feel second best

Aye.

Unlikely to keep so many happy, and swapping out for a full back makes sense.

Can see us selling 1 of the regular starters/squad and buying a striker for decent money (for this level).   See if nombe plays today, rovrum boss already said he will be sold for a decent offer.

This is why prioritising 'resale value' as a financial strategy will never work for us, and also why you should never get too high or low on signings early doors.

Schon was getting rave reviews this time last year, now we'd snap somebody's hand off if they gave us half what we paid.

Blowing the budget before July was out like Evatt did last year isn't the answer either

Dunno, feel like that's a narrative that can be retro-fitted either way. One mans 'blowing the budget' is anothers 'good planning, getting our business done early'. Leaving it late is either 'biding your time to get the best deal' or 'panic buying' depending on how things turn out.

I'd be surprised if there was any correlation between the month we sign players and whether they're any good.

Would not surprise me if several of Forrester, Johnson, Tutu ,Schon, Morley, Sheehan, Randall, Gomes and Mcatee

Are gone by the 1st Sep

Be delighted if Johnston left. Sheehan and McAtee next.....

I don't recall that!  I didn't see him beat a man till about October, I did think he improved to be fair and he's got some decent qualities.  2 good assists at Crawley and Northampton spring to mind.  But I don't think he'd ever got rave reviews, jury been very much out.  Contrasts with Tutu who did get "rave reviews" when he burst onto the scene, making Schon look one dimensional and pedestrian in comparison.  Tutu hasn't progressed though and is unlikely too now, especially if he's being used as a full back more than a winger.

Sometimes beware what you wish for. I remain stunned at the sweeping manner of some of our fans.

GJ would be a transfer that makes sense for all parties. Looking at who is out of contract next summer, I would expect a natural progression of the squad then. As such I doubt the fee would be huge.

Don’t rate Schon - at all

Well I wouldn’t Johnson’s our best defender now he’s properly fit but I wouldn’t be surprised if he went if he’s not starting and I don’t believe there’d be a lack of takers.
