FFS. This isn't Behind The Stands. Most folk come on here to read bullshit rumours and conjecture, with the odd bit of accurate stuff thrown in. It's boring as fuck reading your personal squabbles.

We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

Not sure it was ever realistically open.

No, far from it.

We still need two right wingers really.

Players that started at least one game on the right wing or right sided attacker: ACD, Apter, Forss, Kenny, Burstow

Left wing: Gale, Cissoko, CBT, Tutu.

If we add cups - Warren and CMG (I think). Not sure if JDC did.

Also lost the Dempsey out wide option.

Fair to say we're short of numbers for the wings given how often the first choice is unavailable or out of form.

Gale won't stand a chance in the Championship.

Sobering

Does seem a strange signing to me, throughout the summer we've heard about how getting in loans will allow us to get in signings beyond our means, and i don't mean to pre judge but i can't see how this guy is beyond our means. He has only played in the French Ligue 2 which is equivalent to League 1, and he didn't exactly set the world alight there. The Championship is such a massive step up, we need to really be signing improvements if they're going to start. Worried about this one.

I think all that's fair enough

Give him a chance, he's clearly talented. Just never went though the academy system and thus has to learn the basics from scratch.

I really don't understand this whilst we currently have 4 contracted keepers.

Good goalkeepers, good enough for the Championship are a dime a dozen why are we loaning goalkeepers? when there are tons of experienced players like Paul Nardi (QPR's goalkeeper from last season) or Angus Gunn or even Mathew Ryan (might be a stretch).

We already have 4 this is madness.

I think as we've seen in the past, good reliable goalkeepers aren't actually easy to come by, if they were dime a dozen at any level we wouldn't have spent half a season with Gilks in goal and another with Stoke's third choice as our saviour.

I've heard a name now, don't want to put it out there, but it's a good one with plenty of experience considering he is young.

Let me guess James Beadle?

Does take away a loan spot in the match day squad players if your number 1 keeper who is starting each week is on loan .

Nine subs on the bench next season so think your limited to 5 loan to be included in tje match day

Fergal missed out on signing this new lad in Belgium when he ended up at Augsburg instead. Another interesting thing is that when he got shifted to a striker at the end of last season he started scoring a few goals getting in behind so seems adaptable on either wing or even up top which could be useful especially away if relying on counters

fwiw Leicester bought Mahrez from Ligue 2 when in the championship so I guess you never know

We might already have four signed up but there's no way Broome, Hutch, and probably also Harrington are playing many, if any, minutes in our first-team this season

Billy Crellin?

If a big chunk of your first team is made up of loans, you do 4 things: limit places in the squad for your own talent, limit your own potential assets, don't sign players who would have become assets and at the same time you're playing for the privilege.

Loans work at League 1 because of the business model, It's different in the Championship. Take Dom Ballard at Leyton Orient, they're never going to get more than £2-£3 million and while that might be ok for Leyton Orient, we're so expensive to run as a club, it'll never generate enough to make a difference. We can't afford to do an Oxford.

We need to make liabilities into assets, by using the space we have in our squad for the talent we own.

They were the result of us LOANING two inexperienced goalkeepers. You can't make this up.

It's all well and good talking about what the club should do with the squad, but maybe we focus on what they feasibly can do.

We can all agree an improvement at goalkeeper would be preferable, but we have many holes to fill in a squad that was already lacking in numbers and (in some areas) quality, so they must do what they can within their incredibly limited budget for the level to make those improvements.

If that is loans from Prem clubs for players experienced at the level, then I'd be hard pressed to moan about that.

James Trafford? 😁

My guess would be Beadle, Brighton are stacked with keepers, he must be third choice there. 22 next week and already played 92 games at Championship level. He's not getting a first team start in the Prem yet and too young to sit on a bench.

Yes, its irrelevant to say we've got 4 under contract when only 1 is going to be considered for regular championship games and a max 1 other (Harrington) might get a spot on the bench. 3 of those keepers join the list of players who, due to our promotion, are no longer 1st team contenders. Even more so given we might only have a couple of cup games all season. We could have 8 keepers contracted and we'd still need another in, of the right standard for the league we're in.
