We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

Blackburn mate I know is fuming. They’ve made one signing, a guy who was struggling to get in Stockport’s team last year.

What have we brought in? 6 is it?

I bet there’s not many with 6 new signings.

I know the frustration is we need more, in key areas too, but I’m surprised folk get so impatient when it’s been clearly explained how this process works - late transfers, especially loans are to be expected.

Think the problem is the likes of Blackburn there squad was good enough ( just ) to keep them up last season so only needs smaller improvements were ours after the loans went back and players released was nailed on to go down . So we need to be more active compared to everyone else .

It is going to take longer because we don’t have the budget to do it early so we have to be patient and hopefully we get the players in I can see it going to deadline day for may be the last coupe to get through the door hopefully they will be good enough

He's probably pissed off at being asked about it.

Having Jack Dearden ask you about transfers every other day will probably do that 😄

Here is a thought.

Why don't they make the window shorter?

Ensure that all dealing is done before the season starts?

There is probably a reason, but it would give squads a chance to train together before kick off.

It's only 12 weeks at the minute, I'm not sure they could get away with making it much shorter - I actually preferred it when there wasn't a window at all, and transfers could be done whenever a club fancied a player.

I think the "window" has only been around for about 20 years hasn't it?

Talking of which, I've always wondered why, if a player can't move club outside of the transfer window, why a manager can......imagine having appointing a dogshit manager in August, and being lumbered with him until 1st January, like it or not 🙂

I'd keep the window open until the end of Jan then when it comes to crunch time teams have what they have and a big club can't sign the best player in a position of need and actually buy success.

I agree we'd rather wait than get a player we don't want.

If we only sign Kenny up front, ie one striker, we are still short unless we are happy to go with McAtee as a regular, not just a sub but starting a lot of games.

Last year we had Burstow, Dalby, McAtee and Forss pre-Xmas, and the same from Jan with RR instead of Forss (without including Dempsey and Randall as no.10's). And they were far from ripping up trees, if we'd stayed down it would be the minimum starting point for what we needed. With or without Kenny its hard to imagine that forward line making a dent in the championship especially without the help of ACD.

Duberry will be back on loan once Brighton sort out their end with him and cover. They want him to come back to us as first choice but it’s upto him. Kenny will be the money mover with another RW on loan along with Forss and a back up striker

Asa comparison, how are Cardiff and Lincoln doing with their transfers? Any better than us?

Always like this after a WC. Fucks everything up.

I'm sure he's sick of being asked the same question while being given multiple false promises by clubs, players and their agents. Hopefully it comes together soon but unfortunately expect last minute dealings after the first few games.

Always like this every summer.... don't think the world cup makes that much difference, need all the Prem clubs to get back from the global tours and then it'll all start to move. Younger player will head out on loan, and then teams who cannot get loan targets will have to buy players and it'll get moving, then everyone will panic on the 1st September.

Aye, 2002 or 2003 I think.... was because of the EU and Bosman wasn't it

This

I can't believe anyone at the club is actively stopping us from signing players. This isn't a Phil Gartside being happy as a top 10 team and not wanting (depending on who you believe) us to push for the Champions League. We're absolutely nailed on to finish bottom without significant signings, at which point everyone loses out.

It's just as likely SS is pissed off with clubs/agents/players dicking us around.

"... he's a lad who takes more than some time to get his legs firing and speed of movement up to the right level".

It seems so. But it's only 6 or 7 weeks since the season ended. You’d think he'd not lose that much in that time ... OR ... not stop training in the Summer if it's that hard to reset.

That's a bit concerning. Forss is apparently asking for £30k a week! (from a good source).

His agent thinks he can get that sort of money as he's on a free, presumably just a starting position in negotiations but still its concerning if we decide to pay top wages for him as opposed to giving him a take it or leave it, you're a back up squad player type of deal.

No way on gods earth would we be paying anybody, never mind Forss, £30K per week

I would be happy if we signed him but on nothing like those wages. If that's for real he needs to ditch his agent for being in cloud cuckoo land.

Cardiff had retained many of their Championship squad following relegation but Lincoln are like us and will need to strengthen. Obviously they had a much stronger squad than us last year so may think many of them can step up but we’ll see. I think logically we are the team in there that needs the most strengthening but it’s difficult recruiting enough good players in one window, especially on a low budget. We may only get 2 or 3 in during this window and have to wait until January for more which must be frustrating for Schuey but unfortunately just how it is.

Then he can fuck off.

Whatever his inflated salary at Boro he did 3 Pat's of sod all here despite his acclaimed pedigree.

What about pay as you play?

2 hours ago, Marc505 said:

It does show the mad salaries at this level though - Forss had one ok season with Brentford, smashed some goals in at AFC Wimbledon and got bought by Boro on a £3m four-year-deal at circa £25k a week.

We can choose whether to ignore or believe the Forss £30k talk, the source is another player that has the same agency and 1:1 coach as Forss (yes, he has a 1:1 coach). But he has no reason to make it up.

Out of interest, what do we think Kenny would be on at Celtic that we would have to match? £20k a week minimum?

The logic from players on a free is that you're comparing the whole package which for Kenny would be say £1.5mil plus say £1mil wages in the first year. If Forss got £25k a week out of his next club whoever that is, its still cheaper than transfer fee and wages for a player contrated to another club.

And no doubt loaning someone like ACD would come at a huge cost salary wise if he's about to sign a new improved contract.

Think a lot of players have 1 to 1 coaches.

They had one on talksport the other week who'd done loads with Eze and a few others.
