We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

maybe so

but, if i took anything from SS interview, he says Dalby needs work and thrives on it

ie last season a very slow start post injury

That also crossed my mind, to be honest, when posting it. The flip side of that argument I put out is he's a lad who takes more than some time to get his legs firing and speed of movement up to the right level

Same was said of Santos when he was coming back from injury. Some players of that taller/ larger stature take longer to get fully up to speed apparently.

Lincoln signed 2 and lost 5 from last season.

Got thumped 5-1 at Grimsby last night.

But they've also been capable of spending £2.5m on a player, I cannot understand how we appear to be so cash strapped.

I appreciate we have higher operating costs, but our revenue surely out does clubs around us by a good margin.

One last time for Sluffy..........We can spend 85% of our turnover on transfers/wages

Say it is 20m this coming season that will be 17m. Then on top of that the board can add 33m over 3 seasons. So that works out at 11m per season up to a maximum 15m for one season

It does NOT matter if the club has major losses every season...........So theoretically we could spend roughly 32m on transfers/wages in one season

Sluffy it matters not if there is no equity in the club that 33m will have to be found by the board

They have then a choice of funding it or not.

It matters in the sense the losses still need to be covered by a cash injection from the board

A cash injection that is now limited

Or at least that's the point @Sluffy is making

Also this this needs to be repeated each and every year because if we are spending 85% of revenue every season on SCR we certainly won't be turning a profit by running the club for a year on just the other 15% of the revenue that is left.

Our expenditure has been higher than our revenue, hence the trading loss. Lincoln put together an excellent league one team spending very little compared to us, and I don’t think their overheads are anything like ours. If any club should be aware of the importance of profit, it would be us. And Bury.

Turnover is vanity, profit is sanity as they say.

Do you not think that the player we want to spend money on isn’t yet available I.e Kenny. Just because we haven’t spent yet doesn’t mean we won’t but no let’s just spend it on someone else just please the fans

Just watched the Bolton news post match interview and SS as a face like thunder when the subject of transfers are asked by jack derden says nothing is happening at present

If the ACD fee is really only £5m we really do just have to match that, mortgage the next window on it as well if you have to.

I just don't see how we lose money at that price in the current market.

Clearly he's not "only" £5M, as that was rejected - bearing in mind I'd imagine he'll be wanting a decent weekly wage, he's probably still going to be well out of our price range, and if the fee is that low, there will be other clubs (sadly, even the likes of Rangers) that might prove to be a more attractive proposition to him.

Who's saying we cannot spend that on one player? How many transfers have we failed to make this summer because we wanted the player but couldn't afford them? I'm sure there are examples, but then the whole market is massively quiet other than the odd ridiculously expensive signing...

"Profit" isn't important (Its not even important for SCR - to be clear SCR lets you run at a loss) - Cash is king. That is what we have no idea about.

I don't understand this SCR malarky, can you explain it to a layman please

As much as it was my fault I would suggest we move all this to the FV thread

Blackburn mate I know is fuming. They’ve made one signing, a guy who was struggling to get in Stockport’s team last year.

What have we brought in? 6 is it?

I bet there’s not many with 6 new signings.

I know the frustration is we need more, in key areas too, but I’m surprised folk get so impatient when it’s been clearly explained how this process works - late transfers, especially loans are to be expected.

You've taken my post out of context.

I was merely pointing out that provision would have to be made for ongoing losses if we are spending 85% of revenue on SCR - which actually implies exactly what you've just said.

Randomly Lincoln had Matt Smith "on trial" from Wigan, where he's been a fairly regular midfielder for 3 seasons.

Anyway if Grimsby are now better than last year's runaway L1 winners, I'll lump on while they are still 12/1 (behind Salford, Barnet and York).

SS intimated in that interview that, while its a bit frustrating not to have the bodies in yet its not about getting folk in who aren't the right types for the sake of it. I'd imagine we might be able to shell a small 7 figure fee out on one of those right types if we need to, though I suspect not of the £5m+ levels of our competitors. He did also make the point that only Stoke have brought more in than us to date.

Yep.

Little overall movement yet.

I also got the impression front that interview, that we are in for Kenny, but we just have to wait.

any football fan bemoaning lack of signings when it's still July, needs to give their heads a wobble, hardly anything has moved in the transfer market yet - it'll be into the first or second week of August before any real movement starts, as is the same most seasons

I will try.

SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) is a vehicle emission control system.

It uses a liquid fluid (like AdBlue or DEF) to turn bad gas (Nitrogen Oxides) into safe water and nitrogen before it leaves the exhaust pipe.

HTH.

Here is a thought.

Why don't they make the window shorter?

Ensure that all dealing is done before the season starts?

There is probably a reason, but it would give squads a chance to train together before kick off.

I agree we'd rather wait than get a player we don't want.

If we only sign Kenny up front, ie one striker, we are still short unless we are happy to go with McAtee as a regular, not just a sub but starting a lot of games.

Last year we had Burstow, Dalby, McAtee and Forss pre-Xmas, and the same from Jan with RR instead of Forss (without including Dempsey and Randall as no.10's). And they were far from ripping up trees, if we'd stayed down it would be the minimum starting point for what we needed. With or without Kenny its hard to imagine that forward line making a dent in the championship especially without the help of ACD.

If we’re frustrated at the lack of transfer activity you can only imagine how it affects Schuey who’s ultimately responsible for results. I’d be amazed if we weren’t in for a clutch of players but we can’t move until their parent club is sorted. That could all happen very quickly or drag on, who knows, but I do know that however frustrating I’d rather wait for the right players than snatch at the wrong ones. I suspect its availability rather than price that’s causing the delay and we’ve enough in the kitty to get who we really want.

ACD (or anyone) won't be going anywhere on loan til Brighton etc. are happy that the position is covered for friendly games and training. Be that players back from the WC or new signings.

If they want to offer him a new contract no deal will happen til that is sorted too.
