Don't know anything about Chris Long apart from he's 5"11 and I think ALF is about 5"9, will PP play them instead of Madine? Can't see it myself as I think PP prefers a target man up top.

Shame we've not got one.

Not trawled through the thread but any ideas on who the defender is who we bid for, according to KA's statement ?

Is it true we'd have gone into admin but for the Clough sale ?

Probably that right back

So KA has simply confirmed what the less paranoid and mentle Bolton fans knew.

We don't have a pot to piss in.

These same mentalists pronounce undying and dedicated support for the club and would "watch them play on the local park if I had to".

Maybe without selling Clough, they'd have got the chance.

Scratching my head a bit after last night not sure what to think. let's be positive the defence which has largely got us to 3rd is in tact and the lack of goals which has had us stuttering a bit we've brought in 2 centre forwards one of which is proven.

For the sale of clough see blu marble t&c's for the reasons why

What I can't understand is why a bid for trotter was turned down.

Unless it was just another piece of misinformation.

Suppose it depends on the bid, maybe it was a loan bid but we would only sell

Or whilst most don't like him, as a player he has a value and the bid didn't meet the powers that be's valuation of him

I think the bid was a whip round by all other clubs for us to keep him

Not sure we could "bid" for a player, because of the embargo.

I'd imagine PP wanted Stephen Darby at Bradford. He's out of contract in the summer, so expect him to replace Lawrie Wilson. ;)

So I don't have all the stats, but I'm not sure where people are getting that Clough should have been worth more.

He got 9 goals this season, 3 were penalties, and 2 were free kicks.

As I've said, I don't know all the stats (assists, missed chances etc), but even if you only take away the penalties (my grandma could score penalties) then he was on 6, which is the same as Madine who everyone here thinks is severely shit (and who got those 6 all from open play). Take away the free kicks and he's only on 4... the same as one of our centre backs.

2.5m and a stay from bankruptcy seems like good business to me, especially seeing as we've replaced him with a "proven" goalscorer and someone with some actual pace.

Aye!  Time will tell . . .

Gutted to see Clough go but getting Le Fondre certainly softens the blow.  Be reet

If you're being that simplistic take his goals away and we are 9 points worse off in 9th place, 4 points off the play offs

Scoring penalties isn't as easy as you think

For example Madine has taken 8 penalties in his career and missed 5 of them

He's taken one for Bolton and missed

Scoring penalties IS exactly as easy as I think.

You've got 192 square feet of goal to hit, and only one person in the way.

That was just God awful from Madine.

There's a shock just proves madines a non scoring forward to add to his non physical forward play.

That's not how it works.

I know but you started it by discounting his penalty record and ability to score from set peices and bringing your nan into it

But you can see his value to us this season? Could've been worth more than 3m in the long run

Fuck it

Whilst I admire your ability to throw a line out to back upwhatever argument you are making at the time, the facts would kind of prove you wrong here (I agree, no professional should miss the target from the spot, it doesn't make it 'easy' though)

The current 'best' team in th epremier league (non of this Mickey Mouse lower league stuff, lets look at the Elite) are Swansea, who have scored 95% of their penalaties whilst in the top league since football was invented in 1992.

Manchester United, Arsenal & Spurs (who all have what you would call 'proper' strikers, have a success rate of 76% or lower. One in Four are not scored. Thats not easy.

I also know Clough 'won' at least two of teh penalties he scored(v Bury), not sure about the other one. He'll be a big miss.

You could train up any healthy bloke in his 20's to do what Gary Madine does.

As much as Madine is a bog standard Pro footballer you could not do that, you have still to have some technique and football brain to be a professional I have seen lads fit as fuck strong as an ox and quick who could not compete with relatively unfit 50 somethings who can actually play football.
