jturner Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 We still only have 1 decent midfield player. Wigan think its Vela Quote
waffer cup 07 Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 You don't get decent midfielders for 500k. Quote
Casino Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 You don't get decent midfielders for 500k. morris, dawson and bishop at scunthorpe were all free transfers, so it can be done not easy, mind Quote
Ani Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Wigan think its Vela Vela has found his position more up front. It is Spearing v the rest in midfield. Quote
birch-chorley Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) I'd still class Vela as a midfielder, just more attacking midfield (recently anyway) In terms of the two sitting in front of the back 4 Spearing has been great but we should have more than enough with the likes of Thorpe, Derick, Trotter and Vela (if required) to sit in next to him Even with the recent blip we still have the best defence in the league, the fact that only 9 teams have scored less than us is the problem which points towards the attacking midfield / strikers. I really don't think the 2 sitting in front of the back 4 is our issue. If we got promoted it's another story but we can worry about that in the summer :-) Edited February 3, 2017 by birch-chorley Quote
Blondi Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 It's the final 3rd that's been our achilles heel this season. Hopefully with our new attacking additions, we can maybe turn a corner. lots of pressure/expectation on Alf, but he's vastly experienced and I reckon he could be the best signing of the season. Also, Alf is supposed to be out of contract at Cardiff in the summer, so maybe he'll sign permanently? Quote
Casino Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 theres not a forward pass in beevers, wheater, spearing or thorpe add vela into that as was once again seen on saturday vela, when scoring, does a job, but his goals have dried up Quote
mickbrown Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) Vela needs to play in his advanced midfield role. He's the only one with the legs to get up to support when Madine holds it up (or more likely it bounces off him as he couldn't trap a bag of shit) Edited February 3, 2017 by mickbrown Quote
Farrelli Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 A discussion on our midfield strength could only end up with one conclusion.......Madine's fault! Quote
gonzo Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 A discussion on our midfield strength could only end up with one conclusion.......Madine's fault! A pass is only as good as the receiver ...as my pe teacher used to say. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 A pass is only as good as the receiver ...as my pe teacher used to say. Quite like that. At least if you kick a ball at a garage door or wall you have an idea which way it will bounce off. Quote
Zico Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Vela needs to play in his advanced midfield role. He's the only one with the legs to get up to support when Madine holds it up (or more likely it bounces off him as he couldn't trap a bag of shit) and the only one who seems to put pressure on the back four / keeper when the ball is played back, or the one most likely to Quote
Marc505 Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 A pass is only as good as the receiver ...as my pe teacher used to say. My PE teacher used to feel our backs to check they were wet after we'd been in the shower. There was also a rumour that he was formerly an amateur boxer who'd killed someone in a bout once. Weren't skoo mint Quote
jules_darby Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Feeney is everything we've been missing all season.Crosses into the North stand? Quote
enzo gambaro Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Crosses into the North stand?Aye, he must be what Blackburn have missing most of the season, too. Quote
Ratwhite Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 Feeney had a great work ethic/Feeney ran about, a lot!* Delete as appropriate Quote
tomski Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Agree with gonch. We are crying out for a feeney this year Quote
birch-chorley Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 (edited) He was our most creative player last season, I liked him, having no striker didn't make his job any easier No competition granted I thought he was going to Cardiff in the last transfer window? Edited February 4, 2017 by birch-chorley Quote
frank_spencer Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Wasn't Feeney involved in more goals (assist and scored) than anyone else. Quote
Naytch Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Feeney was wank I never understood the hate for Feeney. Limited yes but worked his arse off and created more than most players in the team. When it looked like most of them couldn't give a shit, Feeney was always willing to give it a go. He'd do well for us this year if he was still here. I'd happily have him back. Quote
