Tonge moor green jacket Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Just seen macdonell say Tories should should step back, sort out a new leader and let labour get on with a minority government. Unbefuckinlievable. I know labour have done well relatively speaking but an astonishing comment. Overall not as big a surprise as might have been expected. Apart from talking about brexit, and strong and stable bullshit, Tories didn't present a good enough case. Failing to offer a costed care plan looked shabby, failure to acknowledge NHS strife smacked of ignorance or stupidity. Perhaps they were overconfident, but for me the performance from announcing the election was rank. Incumbent governments often have a ratings slump midterm, so it was imperative that they presented a good case. Add to the fact that (as described by several commentators) corbyn is an excellent campaigner and seasoned protester they clearly went down the wrong track. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I don't remember Ed's manifesto offering a 33% increase in NMW, scrapping tuition fees, offering rebate to those already paying tuition fees, nationalising the water & rail companies plus Royal Mail. JC's is very much a left manifesto, Ed's was centrist. Of course there were differences (the Turpin fee was the real trump card here) but there were many similarities. Renationalised train companies is something many in the South East - whatever their political view - can get behind. Quote
darwen_white Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Over one million students have registered to vote since the election was called. This is a rejection of Brexit by the young. But let's be calm here - Labour have still lost, they cannot form a government but thank god we can dial down this hard Brexit rhetoric. That's the victory I'm happy with today (that and Julien Braizer getting ousted) It seems that the students have swung things, but that's because they don't understand how things (university fees) are funded - it's just a free ride for them. This election has not been a rejection of Brexit - far from it. The only party rejecting Brexit were the Lib Dems, not Labour. Quote
Escobarp Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 More to the point brexit cannot be rejected by the electorate. That's a fact. It's been done and no going back Quote

Escobarp Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Tories should step down allow corbyn in. Play the long game. One term of utter chaos and that should see labour out for a long time. Let the youth see the error of their ways Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 And Chris Green And that despite running the worlds worst ever election campaign and promises of paradise, the commies didnt get in. Sadly, the Tories campaign was so poor that he did better than expected. She's still at it now, almost in denial that it wasn't a good night. Fortunately she can still get on with brexit (albeit changed). Its this old fashioned style that has alienated her and a spot of contrition would go amiss. I was really keen on a strong performance with brexit and security issues paramount but she didn't shine. Its a shame as I think she is good at politics behind the scenes, but she just didn't appeal.
