A post that shows he has no idea whatsoever as to how the civil service works. Or a democratic government.

No wonder Farage gets so much traction when this is the level of understanding.

He's so far gone, he'll double down.

Basically he's done OK due to time place and yes, hard work (like we all do) and his family are fine and now it's an ideological stomp with no need to read or understand much at all - he's right and any other view is stupid or condensending.

He has such a fundamental misunderstanding of history or politics - which is fine its pretty boring if you're not a geek, but to speak as though anyone he supports has any real understanding of growing up or living in Britian in 2024 and is offering any sort of solution to the pickle this country finds itself in sticks in the craw a bit.

Also my ex Mrs was a SCS - it's not so much the CS that is the problem (ut it does have huge flaws) but the system that has ministers with no experience looking after portfolios of which they can't work with befire they are moved on in a few months. How many housing ministers have we had over the past 15 years? No wonder it's in a state - so we need stability, no more disrupters just saying 'it's all a mess' we need a stable government that keeps people in ministerial positions for a decent time so they can get ontop of their brief with the help of the CS - as has always been the way until the insanity of the infighting of the government post Cameron.

And he messed things up by using austerity as a way to drill down public service money without any recourse.

I corresponded with Shapps about the lack of fire precautions in building cladding when he was Housing Minister c 2010, he promised to raise it within his department and the HBF etc... the letters will be in a box somewhere

The fear amongst you left leaners is palpable.

I'm not afraid. I'm ambivalent really. And I've become more of a stoic in my middle age 😁

And I wouldn't necessarily describe myself as left leaning per se. More of a pragmatist 👍

Whilst this government has been particularly bad a keeping ministers in post, it is a problem with our system, but the CS do more good than bad at keeping things running. No MP wants to be Jr minister for housing in the home office - you literally have no power.

Pragmatism isn't ambivalence.

That sounds like it should be the title of a seminal album by some crusty prog rock band

No Housing Ministers will solve the housing 'shortage' whilst the builders control the market

They're ain't going to suddenly build shed loads of housing just because planning laws may have been relaxed.

That'll saturate the market and isn't good for profits. Plus they are usually big party donors which is why each govt for the last 30 years keeps saying they'll solve the housing crisis but never does

I realise that. I'm ambivalent about the rise of the far right in Europe. But I'm pragmatic when it comes to my stance on most issues.

Ironic that the people of Europe are using European elections to voice their discontent with immigration - and we're stuck on the outside, in control of our own borders - but with record levels of immigration.

Aye just came on to say this, the first video I saw it looked like a white stone/brick, but does look more like a drink container.

I’ve just watched a clip of the incident on Sky News. It wasn’t a coffee cup. It was a couple of smallish lumps of concrete, lifted from a builder’s skip/bin. If you think that you can throw a paper or plastic coffee cup in a straight line for that distance then you’re an even bigger gobshite than I had you down for, Cheese.
Throwing things at politicians, whether it’s a lump of concrete or a milk shake is totally unacceptable. That’s if it’s Farage, Abbott or anyone in between. It’s only a matter of time before some not right throws a cup of acid at a politician.

100%, he may be an utter dick, but folk shouldn't be throwing stuff at him

What you're saying is that Boris (who you pretended to think was wonderful) was too weak to do anything to change the situation, even when he had an 80 seat majority. The Conservatives when they won the last GE, could have done pretty much anything they wanted to, I'd have thought the first thing they would have done is clamp down on the Civil Service obstructing them.

I wanted the first thing to be the outlawing of skorts. An insult to mankind.

Wrong. Been around since the 20th century but really took hold with snowflake yanks in the 2010's. I suppose with 14 years in power, you weren't far off with the more significant emergence but there is no relationship between the two other than doves (Maggie called them wets) cynically moving with social trends.

Certainly happy for them to break so called EU law.
