Lets look at some key policies Blair enacted: Tax rises Higher Welfare spending Increased spending on social services Huge amounts of money poured into the NHS and schools Increased workers rights Introduced the human rights act That's just off the top of my head. Now of those things we know Boris' government is more or less diametrically opposed to Blair's position on every single item on that list. As is Boris himself with the arguable exception of the final two - but then I rather expect that to be "tokenism" towards the so called "one nation" Tories. Then we come onto the EU. But aye they are the same.....
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 8, 2019 Site Supporter Share Posted August 8, 2019 All that public spending- great so long as the money is there. Remember his chancellor, "no boom and bust!" Plenty of boom and a massive bust. Even a genuine Cyclops should have seen that coming.

But aye they are the same..... I’d say Boris is historically much closer to the centre / Blair (politically speaking) He has lurched right to suit himself and it’s worked, he’s now the PM! Dont forget, he wrote 2 letters before he decided which way to go in the referendum, one for, the other against. He is by far the most disingenuous politician going. Scumbag really on that level, fuck him For the record I’d say the same if he was an arch leaver who flipped to remain to enhance his career. I’d much rather have someone who is genuine and would do what they believe is right for the country

Let’s have it right, the ‘Massive bust’ was a global financial crisis effecting all countries rather than a localised event driven by central government I believe Blair and Brown are looked back unfairly for me

But brown constantly said he wouldn't overspend, and would effectively keep some back for a rainy day. Not too sure he was overly successful. I don't have a problem with public spending, but it's got to be adjacent to investment in jobs growth, infrastructure etc, that will help produce tax revenues by return. The bailing out of the banks was necessary and required a lot of borrowing. As for the last line that is what Labour achieved - a booming economy with investment from government that allowed public services to be funded to levels not seen before. Then the crash - but lets remember at the time the Tories under Cameron were calling for higher public spending than Blair/Brown were committing to. Sssshhhh - you're doing it all wrong. It was years of financial mismanagement by a profligate Labour party who were also responsible for the economic downturn which was in no way related to the global crash which affected everywhere else but not the UK. Followed by a period of strong, stable and wise Conservative leadership which has left us much better place, socially, financially and as a world power and with no doubt whatsoever about our future place in the world. Aye. Fwiw, I don't have a problem with the bail out etc, just the rainy day preparation wasn't too effective. I was chuffed initially when we were told no more book and bust etc. I benefited from some of the spending, then suffered when it went. Just disappointed that it didn't work out as GB said it would.
