York

Featured Replies

Off to York this weekend for other halfs 40th. Currently weather suggests it's going to be cracking the flags. Any suggestions for pubs/bars with a bit of charm/beer garden for day time drinking? Cheers fellow piss pots

National league North. One below old Conference

They are called York City Soccer Club for some probably marketing related reason.

One of the best places in this country.

Just mooch around the shambles, all top places round there

Anyone remember the cup game when we traversed the ground to get on their end? They had big lad about 20 stone with camouflage jacket holding us up but he didn't last long. What year was that?

I just wrote a big post with a load of tips for where to drink and a couple of gaffs to eat then realised I was on about Chester.

The days of going to Chester, York and Shrewsbury in the same season, love our culture us Bolton fans.

????????????????

York is brilliant for a booze up. Quite like the Maltings just by the river near the train station for simple pub grub before hitting it properly. Anywhere near the shambles is decent, won't go wrong for pubs. Couple of decent curry houses too but no chance of remembering their names

Not a big fan of Carvery's but the one at the Viking Hotel used to be absolutely spectacular.

Stone Roses Bar, Fibbers... top place

I went the year we got relegated to the 4th

Asa Hartford scored for us and we lost. I remember nowt else

Walmgate is worth a wander. The Brew York tap is decent with a terrace overlooking the river, and Walmgate Ale House over the road isn't bad either.

For food, you've got Le Cochon Aveugle if you want somewhere fancy. Then across road from there you've got Khao San Road (Thai) El Gaucho (steak) and the afore-mentioned Barbakan (Polish) - all great and relatively inexpensive.

If you want cheap and ace there's Il Paradiso del Cibo - brilliant no frills Italian gaff run by a bonkers Sardinian. Always a cracking atmosphere in there too. He's a Juventus fan but I try not to hold that against him.

Or just take root in Trembling Madness.

Trembling madness is great! You'll find it on Stonegate, upstairs of the shop.Expect to queue to get in.Great beers and the foods good too. You can't really go wrong in York, loads to see and do.

Fond memories of Pivni

This. Club paid for travel iirc. Good turnout bit shit result.

Remember having a walk near some part of the wall. Vaguely.

Used to like The York for a 1st pint back in Bolton off the train, but it never got its custom back after a spell of being a homosexualists' place & now it suffers from karaoke.

Races are on Saturday (and Friday) everywhere will be heaving.

Full of people in suits really passed thinking they should be treated special because they are wearing suits.

But it is a good place and miles better than Chester on race day.

Another vote for the Italian on Walmgate as endorsed by Enzo,  Il Paradiso del Cibo. good atmosphere. The boss is a scream and called my son a cheeky bastard when he asked if the big portrait on the wall was of him. Next door is York Brewtap.

For pub we went Star in the City on the river in the Museum Park as weather was good. House of Trembling madness is usually rammed but midday Sunday was Ok.

love York,

Jorvik Viking Centre is ace.

If you're a kid.
