Wtf is hyrox?

Sounds like a small, earth dwelling rodent/marsupial type thing.

The new buzzword at the moment it seems. Most gyms seem to be jumping on the hype.

It’s like CrossFit but more aimed at Endurance and less technical.

Did a Hyrox class for the first time on Friday. Quite possibly one of the worst things I’ve ever done. Didn’t know if I was going to throw up, piss or shit myself. Horrendous. Full membership starts tomorrow 🙃

Planning to do the 3 Peaks in Summer so training needs to start somewhere (albeit a slightly different sort). Any advice appreciated!

Had my eye on this for a while

My gym does a Tuesday night session

Fortunately it clashes with kids bed time so I've not had chance to do it yet

Hyrox is for weirdos

Wasn’t a good idea to go on the scales this morning. 22 pounds gained since August. 5 bastard stone heavier than my lightest point post-lockdown. No wonder my clothes don’t fit.

😁

To be fair, those people who do Hyrox are generally fit as fuck.

the good ones are. There are a lot of people like me who do it though. The gyms are a rip off. We went to one for a while. They prey of social misfits like myself and make you think you are less weird

bang on

the hyrox event itself has massively took off, think there's a ballot for tickets now

just get good at running, it's a running event

As a fatty with dicky knees (probably from being a fatty), am I better off...
(a) running
(b) exercise bike / real bike
(c) having another pie and resigning myself to being a fat cunt until the day I die, which hopefully won't be many years away.

Buy a proper bike and a turbo trainer for the times you really can't face going out.

Or the pies sound a good option.

Fuck running

get a bike and get it connected to zwift, will make it far more enjoyable

Get a pelaton or watt bike, only a mentalist would get a real bike for these roads.

Or sign up to a gym, use their exercise bikes and get some swimming done.

100%

I've always hated exercise for the sake of exercise. Used to play a lot of sport, but ditched it over the years.

Got to the point where I was doing fuck all, so finally got round to buying a cheap road bike, cheap wheel on trainer (since upgraded) and signed up to myWhoosh (free - since subscribed to Zwift and Rouvy).

Started early December last year, and literally the only time I've ever stuck to any form of exercise.

Did over 2,500 miles on 2024 and about 2,800 so far in just over 13 months.

The value of something like zwift - I'm way too slow to race - is that you can always find something to keep you focused / challenged during a ride.

I'm a massive advocate, happy to share advice or answer any questions, but definitely the right option for me.

(also do a bit on the road when the weather's decent btw)

oh ... and anyone's welcome to the cheap wheel on trainer if you can be arsed collecting from Yorkshire.

Ha ha good for your dodgy knees though.

I deffo wouldn't be running pal.

Cycling is the one or a cross trainer at the gym. Low impact all the way.

Still the same cheap (£300) road bike but upgraded to Elite Justo direct drive trainer.

Mostly use zwift as I quite like the 'gamey' elements - like racing your personal best on the short sprints - and the fact that there's loads of people on so you can always find someone slower than you to catch up / overtake 😁

Also subscribe to Rouvy for more realistic real world feel rides.

My power is pretty shite and hasn't massively improved, but conversely I find riding generally and hills in particular miles easier in the real world than I did a year ago.

I'd definitely be a cross trainer.

All depends whether you think you look better in Speedos or lycra

I'd go with swimming myself as it exercises the full body rather than just the legs

Plus it's easier to then go and sit in the sauna instead
