Smiley Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 Day 1 of the MAF Method today. Might actually be a false start as got a couple of nights out coming up, so will stick to the low heart rate training method, but the keto diet (Phil Maffetone says its not a diet) might crash around next weekend. Kickstarted the day with a 17 hour fast. Then prepped some chicken, salad, brocolli/cauliflower rice, and also made 4 lots of soup using the stalks from broccoli and the leaves from the cauliflower that I would normally chuck in the food waste. Headache started already, thought it may have been in a few days. Managed to get down to 40g carbs today and just 7g of sugar. Will try and get lower tomorrow. My daily exercise was a 3.5 mile run at a low heart rate, really struggled to keep it down and had to walk 3-4 times. From all the research I’ve done, this is harder than cutting out the carbs and sugar. Did the run in the last hour of my fast, so was running on fumes. Quote
gonzo Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 Sounds ace mate. I'm starting the eating fresh air and only drinking one sip of water per week. I'm hoping to get this down to one sip every two weeks. I'm going to deplete by body from all it's vital resources the train intensely to deplete it just a little bit more. Then a nice long ice bath to halt any muscle repair or growth just to suffer a bit more. Quote

And I thought I was doing well with my HIIT airbike sessions and finally getting back into pre-Covid clothes 😁 Quote

Is that low heart rate thing the same as zone 2? I can do that for hours on the bike. Without sounding like a broken record, getting back into road biking was the best thing I’ve ever done (prostrate and piles risks aside). Never been fitter. Quote

Give or take a few heartbeats! Basically taking notice of the fact that sugar is causing far more damage to society than heroin and tobacco and fixing it. Fat for fuel!! Quote
Big E Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 I have really dialled back on my ale after realising it may help me come off some medication. Noticed my blood pressure is well down which is good. Not sure what it will do to cholesterol (these are the tablets I want to fuck off as I am getting tinnitus). I’ve realised I enjoy a few beers when I want but happy to go without. Big issue has been increasing the number of crisps I have. Sat in the pub having a bag with every pop. anyway not sure the point of it all but I ran a 55min 10k which I didn’t think I could so pretty chuffed Quote

Makes me laugh people pretending to do zone 2 when they are like max heart rate Quote

Do you not get full after like one, maybe two? Quote

jmjhb Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Had a health check last week and to my astonishment I was two stone lighter than I thought. I'm now 11st 5, don't think I've been that since I was 17 (now 37). Not even going to the gym either, although that will change soon Quote
only1swanny Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 I'm down to 19.5 stone now, so pretty happy with that, fitting into 38 waist (was 44). Will start back up at the gym, still walking lots, but the last 2 weeks have derailed me massively Quote
Sweep Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 I've just tipped 13st for the first time in my life, I'm quite pleased about it, as I've always struggled to gain any weight really Quote
MancWanderer Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Took me a while to realise that my Apple Watch measures the time spent in each zone. Looks like I spend 80% of my time in zone 2 when swimming but over 90% in zones 3 and 4 when on the bike. Do I need to dial down the effort on the bike? Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 12 lb in 12 weeks. Still going. Feel better for it. Quote

Given the weight loss the doctor thinks it's been undiagnosed a while. Might explain why I've been feeling rotten recently. Anyway, onto metformin and lifestyle changes... Quote
