That's true but it's the same as any illness.. the difference is that second time round in theory, you will not have it for anywhere near as long.

Saying this to Mrs Swanny last night, there's a chance when I felt drained about 2 weeks ago I could have caught it again, although I didn't have any symptoms aside from aching all over.

Unfortunately, it isn't necessarily the case. There's one doc type that the bbc use a lot, and he was saying that some a having a worse do second time round.

Either way, it still makes herd immunity very difficult.

We are at such an early stage with this virus (doesn’t feel like it though) that it’s way too early to speculate about immunity/mutation. It’s fairly sure that it’s not a virus like flu or the common cold that constantly mutate and come back like a fucker every year. Without boring folk about “antigenic shifts” some viruses mutate but not in a way that means that it’s constantly different every time and you can repeatedly reinfect and suffer. Please come back @peelyfeet and explain it better than me

I remember being sat in a talk from a virologist from Stepping Hill Hospital in the mid 80’s talking about a virus being spread by bumders from California who were fisting each other. He reckoned that it would die out within a couple of years due to the type of virus that it was. Loon!!

I don’t think ‘herd immunity’ has ever been fully possible. I think the idea is that if you let it run then like any seasonal virus it quickly works it’s way through the population in a short time then recedes quickly as it’s burnt through a lot of the possible hosts, reducing the R number below 1 until it’s in very small transmission. Example being winter flu, that comes and goes with peaks and troughs, not everyone gets it / shows symptoms

Idea behind ‘herd immunity’ is that you’d only need to shield the vulnerable for a few months until it burns out. Then you have a few months as normal and go again with the shielding when it starts back up. 85% of the population go about as normal throughout

To be fair, I don’t believe a vaccine would fully eradicate this virus. It will become just like a Winter flu and will go on killing for many years yet, vaccines required each year with varying levels of success

They got the Winter flu vaccine wrong in 2018 and I think an extra 50k died in the U.K. because of it (more than has died from Covid thus far)

I might be wrong then 😂

I was of the understanding that winter flu viruses like the H3N2 strain, that caused havoc in 2018 had been about for decades and the reason you can keep catching it is that you lose your immunity

Brazil have the second highest number of deaths

Looking at the graph they're are still in the middle of wave one

Belarus probably haven't even noticed

I’ve just looked, Brazil’s stats aren’t to different from ours and they seem to be on a down trend.
Belarus deaths have been consistent throughout (around 4 a day) but cases are now beginning to rise.

Think both might be true there.

The scientist this morning was saying that the current mutations wouldn't need a different vaccine.

I wish that I could explain it in a really easy way. Years ago I was involved with an immunisation for the RSV virus. It comes around every year around August/September time and lasts til March. Adults may get a sniffle. 90% of kids under 2 have had it and are ill and stream gallons of snot. Premature babies end up in ICU. Thing is the immunisation is pretty much identical every year. The virus mutates but not in a way that means a massive difference. So it’s  an immunisation rather than a vaccine. But it’s still a respiratory virus. Wish I could properly explain

No they don’t. Water cones out of a hydrant under pressure of the water main.

Depends on what is classed as a lockdown

True. At a guess, all hospitality and "non essential" retail forces to close. Schools and manufacturing kept open. No meeting of anybody outside your own household.
