desperado Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 4 minutes ago, Mr Grey said: Excellent points and in agreement. It's so fragmented in schools and colleges at the moment, Students and staff self-isolating, some centres are remote teaching every other week, by the time exams come around, theres no way that students will be prepared for a full set of external exams. Even internal exams are going to be difficult, which some Students may miss because of the current situation, also difficult to administer. Next weeks exams will go ahead, it's to late to cancel them, I'm already receiving emails from Students telling me they can't take them because they are self-isolating and they are not allowed in College. We also have a testing system (Temperature) in place, so some could be sent home on before they enter the exam room. Like you say, all this is going to have an extremely negative effect on school and College kids. Correct. A really common picture across education at the moment. I’m really hoping the topbods find a fair combined method which reflects the true ability/potential of these students. Quote

The virus is shit, yes it’s getting out of control but we have to live through it as safely as possible. Locking down will cause far more problems than it will solve. A lockdown did work last time. We were able to bring the virus under control and protect the NHS from collapsing. A second wave was always predicted so another lockdown is required. What definitely doesn’t work is the governments tier system. Quote
Biggish Dave Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Depends what you call working. It worked as far as stopping the NHS getting swamped with covid patients but ask families of people who have died from other things which could otherwise have been saved if its worked. Better balance needed Quote
Farrelli Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Yes I agree and maybe the nightingales have to be used this time. The resources are stretched though. Quote

Nowack Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 I'm not sure we can be equating deaths from cancer with the covid outbreak just yet. As far as I'm aware nobody has not been treated for cancer due to covid, unless it was deemed riskier to treat them than get covid. The risk is the people that have not been to see the doc because of covid and the cancer will not be caught early enough. They won't show up in excess deaths for a while yet. Quote

Looking like we have to live with this, just like we live with Flu and other viruses, that's not hard to see. What does every country intend to do, close their economy to protect their healthcare each time there's a rise in infections, it's a tough one and no country in Europe seems to have got a grip with it. Indeed it is likely a seasonal respiratory virus, evidenced, as you say, by all European countries in a similar position, despite handling it differently through the year. A national lockdown would be an unnecessary, panic, measure Quote
