Proper Shithole Pubs.

With the lockdown ending and most of the drinking establishments getting a lick of paint, i remember going in the Crown pub in Tyldesley, it was off the main drag and hardly used, a proper Walkers pub built near a mill. Place was falling apart, outside bogs with a stench what rats would even venture clear, and a clientele of us underage drinkers and old men with missing limbs.

Wasn't it under a different name when that happened mate ? Pretty sure it was Moss Side lads who went in with the gun and actually had them taken off them and at least one was shot dead outside on the grass.

Think United were playing Chelsea that day

No was still the ship.

You’re thinking of the similar incident at the brass handles just near the precinct two black lads walked in opened fire and think someone took one of the guns off one they both legged it and both were shot  dead In the car park.

the ship incident they were looking for Ste lydiate (Jason Lydiates brother). He subsequently kidnapped and tortured a lad and held him hostage for about a week, pulled his teeth out , electrocuted him the lot (was the wrong lad ) looking for revenge.

I drank in their regular for about 5 years with my family. Great boozer. If a tad rough and wouldn’t have gone in as a stranger.

Yes, that's the one pal, my mistake.

Fascinating article on it below......didn't know the intended target was years later in the car when that Grainger fella was shot dead in Culcheth

Bobby spiers used to run PMS for Massey. Was his right hand man. I did the security at a couple of Michael Brodie’s fights at bowlers working for them. My cousin was very close friends with PM and I met him a few times (unfortunately) Horrible horrible man who frightened the life out of me if I’m totally honest.

I worked with a cousin of jason and the wales union international for a bit

I also did work for the stopfordian boss

Did massey have a legitimate security firm based on that road between mcdonalds and salford crecent...if so, i did stuff for them too

Yes she is the sister and was masseys missus.

i  was good mates with joe the other brother for a good few years but haven’t seen him in a long time now

Massey did have a “legit” security business, pms. Actual location of the offices I’m not sure. The times I worked I turned up at the venue and got paid cash and left.

We have a good laugh about Leeds not going to Eccles but people like Paul Massey are the reason why.Within half an hour Paul Massey could have raised a Salford mob that would run Leeds out of town.I don't know of another community like that.

never went in the rocket

Nor the starkie

And im not going in the castle

Doubt ive missed owt

I've been in all three. The Castle not that long after SIr Nat had vacated the landlords seat. My grandads local was The Starkie ("before it turned rough").

No doubt they're all as rough as fuck now.

There's only the castle left of the three. Starkie got bulldozed and one of them frozen food for scutters shops built in place.

I went in a pub at city away that had a skittles alley thing in the basement.

Eatings cheating. Anyway, they stick to your teeth.

Mother Macs in manc was always interesting. All prices were in divisions of 50p as there was no till.

Went in the Millstone on a stag do round Manc 1993 ish, was rough as fuck then.. pool cues behind the bar but no table😕. When we came out some bloke chased after us shouting, I thought 'here we go!', turns out of of our lot had dropped a £20 note & he was returning it 😊

Anyone missing The Rocket can just go in the front gardens across the road, proper pub set up with a dartboard and all. Covid central.

Went in the Ancient Shep once, seriously lucky to get out alive. Landlord came over and hit one lad over the head with a stool for no reason, fractured his skull. Class.

Dartboard mounted on a stolen street sign

I particularly like the trashed caravan that must've had a dozen in at one point mid early lockdown

Starkie

Castle

Rocket

Rupert

Schooner

Highfield

Kenyon Arms

The Raven

The Cotton Tree

Frequented all of them over the years, all a bit rum and with plenty of "characters" as regulars

I think there's only The Castle still open out of this little list.
