Well, when Russia invaded Crimea I think Obama was in power and he did fuck all. Then Putin went into Donbas with his "little green men" and unstablised the region and held sham elections. Dimron is completely wrong to suggest it is a kind of civil war in the east, it is clearly not. Quote

It doesn't help we over rely on gas and where do you think most of that comes from? We need to invest internally in infrastructure and spend well. But we've lost our engineering skills background in large projects. If France can build power stations why can't we anymore? Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 We know the recent history of Ukraine, and inevitably those areas bordering Russia will have a greater number of Russia leaning people. The country is still independent though, and was gradually moving towards a more open, democratic society. It may not have been perfect in the nation as that transition took place, but that isn't an excuse for Russia to launch an unofficial invasion there almost 11 years ago. The Eastern areas have been fucked over as a result, followed by the full invasion since. There is simply no justification for Putin's actions whatsoever. All that said, looking for a way to end the war is reasonable. Nothing has happened as yet; commentators throwing their arms in the air maybe premature in their actions. If and when anything concrete is revealed, we can judge then. Trump is a twat, but it may take a twat to deal with an even bigger twat. Quote

The rest OK, but we can and are building nuclear power facilities- we just chose to go a different route some time ago, which was a mistake gradually being rectified. Nuclear also requires a lot of land which France has far more of than we do. Quote

We just need to start building stuff in areas that people don't want us to build in. The greenbelt and "areas of outstanding natural beauty" will just have to suffer if we want energy independance. Sadly, as has been proved this winter, we can't rely on turbines, as they've generated absolutely fuck all (in the grand scheme of things). Nuclear is definitely the way to go, as well as trying to harness tidal power, which we still can't do efficiently. Quote

Owing to my interest in aeroplanes and flying I have been following events since a Russian SAM was fired by Ukrainian separists and brought down a Malaysian airliner, well before the invasion.
