Well why should we believe anything he says ? The only thing Putin understands is force

Again that’s for the talks. To think he’s simply going to walk away and then have talks is delusional. You’ve got things the wrong way round.

What are the "bigger stakes at play", do you think? 🤦‍♂️

Europe is going to be squeezed from existing as a potential player on the global stage... eastern states will have pro Russian  puppets installed, we will have a pro US Government and the French, Germans and Italians will become some sort of engineering hubs which will be used to offset Chinese industry.

The EU is becoming surrounded and the vultures are perched on the high ground waiting for the pickings

Not really. He invaded a sovereign country. If Russia took half of the UK following an invasion would you be happy if we rewarded them with talks ? Just get out of Ukraine.

Fuck me. Have you been listening to Alex Jones or something? 🤦‍♂️ If anything it sounds like this is your fantasty, and you're willing it to happen.

Yes really. We are not talking about us. They’re not just going to leave the Ukraine are they, it’s pointless to keep suggesting it.

No... It just spouts as I type... it's a gift, some sort of tourettes... but it often gets to some of the truths

So had any plans been made or is he just happy to keep taking billions off us for for many more years

Was/is anyone in Europe prepared to speak to Putin?

The only way to stop these wars is around a table. I’ve not seen many other leaders pushing for talks.

I doubt he's happy about anything at the moment. And I'm sure he'd rather be sat in Kiev with no western aid and the Russians having never invaded his country.

I'm also sure that pretty much anybody in Europe would have gladly sat down for talks with Putin if they genuinely believed he was interested in a lasting peace.

I expect Putin is going to get exactly what he wants. And the West is going to look like it's capitulated and like it's in disarray.

I agree that a negotiated settlement is in everyone's best interests. But a negotiated settlement that only the US and Russia have any input into isn't. And neither is a negotiated settlement that encourages other dictatorships to take what they want by force.

This is barring, of course, some wonder deal that Trump manages to pull out of the bag which naively I'm still hoping for. Mainly because his accolytes keep telling me what a fantastic deal maker he is - and that all the bluster is somehow just Trump confusing his adversaries before delivering the coup de grace. Personally I don't think he's that bright but we'll find out soon enough.

Like I said, I'll reserve judgement until we see what's agreed (if anything is) - but I reckon this will go how I've always said it will go.

The UK is fortunate as it is surrounded by the sea... therefore we have definite borders (excepting Wales and Scotland)... the problem in central Europe is there are no definite borders but lots of generational discrimination and unrest towards the people in the next village an so on

I doubt that’s ever going to be the case. I doubt Zelensky is going to agree to anything that doesn’t suit him and Ukraine, especially if he’s not been sat in on the discussions.

Talks are a start, it might take a while but hopefully it’s something to work on.

Not sure what point you are making. Ukraine is a sovereign country with well established borders.

I think it's more likely that Trump will agree a shit deal and then put enormous pressure on Zelensky to take it. And try to spin it that Russia are the good guys and Ukraine are a barrier to peace.

But we will see I suppose.....

I know 😂

Pretty pleeease Mr Putin ... Withdraw all your troops and machinery ... Then we'll have a nice chat on how you're not getting any of our land and the last few years have been absolutely pointless for you and your allies.

We'll bring along some of your favourite Borscht ... you bring the Beluga.

What do you mean No? 😕

Proof of the pudding etc, but I'm not as sceptical.

The US is going to talk to one side or the other first- both aren't getting round a table together initially- and if Putin has his ego massaged by being first then so be it.

I also think it is the continued effort by America to get Europe to put more of its own money into defence spending- which may well be working, given the quickly arranged European summit.

We only have to look further east to see how difficult negotiations can be, and who get the first call seems somewhat trivial in the overall picture.

Personally think Ukraine just just dig their heels in till Putin dies

Funny you say that, I googled his age earlier to see how long he’s likely to have left. He’s 72 so I hope those Ukrainian have big heels as he could still  be round for quite a while.
