Marathon

Right....i can't find my original post so throwing this one out there.

I have started a 27 week plan to hopefully finish at the end of the Berlin Marathon.

Any tips for training ? currently got a PT to help build my glutes etc to prevent a further hip injury.

Make a log of your training.

Set yourself goals

Make sure your gear is fully broken in before you do the marathon

Stock up on vaseline

I've heard he's already ahead of you on that one 😉

could i ask why

Berlin

I’ve done 4 over the years, the best bit of advice I was given was listen to other peoples advice but do what works for you and listen to your body more.

For me, I found not trying to do too much too soon worked. Get comfortable over 2 miles before pushing for 5. Get comfortable at 5 before trying 8 or 9 etc.

Vaseline under the arms is one area often forgotten about - don’t make that mistake

Run your longest training run of the week very slowly.

Say you're gay and they'd rue the day they put you in a running vest, take loads of drugs, run away and hide in your attic, drink milk and piss in the empty bottles, discard your clothes and don a blanket, refuse to wash or shave and smear your faeces over the walls.

in fairness, this has been the life that @Big Ehas been living for several years already

My mate who just won a 48 hour race in Italy running 350km says...

Run run run, lose some weight, buy some kettle bells and fuck the PT off...

And

If he's got hip issues I recommend resistant band work everyday. And definitely yoga a couple times a week. He needs to strengthen his core. It's not just about running.

Is he imprisoned in 'The Maze' for being in Eamonn Holmes' Real IRA and doing pub bombings?

Put one foot in front of the other a bit faster than when you walk.

Not as such. Tried to put something together and been using the book sweep sent. Happy for information

Only one piece of advice - Hill Splits. That's what'll get you there

As others have said, mix it up a bit.  1 long slow run every week, with fartleks, hills, off road on your other days.  Longest run should be no more than 20 miles and done no later than 3 weeks from the big day.  Get new trainers now or halfway through, that you're happy with.  Dont do or try owt on the day that's not been part of your preparation.

Good luck!

looking at moving to the Mizuno Wave Rider 25's i have had the 23's and 24's so far which have been excellent.

Prefer a Snickers.

Don't forget to check the tube stations for the quick routes with less running

That story from there about the frozen shites wrapped in cling film being used as sex toys, haunting.

Good choice of Shoe. Mizuno wave always my go-to running trainers. I did my one and only marathon (end of Ironman 2019) in Mizuno wave 22’s. Since had 23’s and 24’s. Wasn’t as happy with the 24s (not as much protection on heel a mid-foot) so went back to 23’s.

Advice I would give is 80% of your training Zone 2 (easy talking pace) 20% hard/effort sessions. I only ran twice a week, one shorter/quicker run, one long/slow run. That said I was cycling and swimming twice a week too which kept the general aerobic fitness up to scratch.

Good luck with the training 👍
