Each to their own. You might save a couple of quid, you might not.
You've definitely very little protection if one of your suppliers goes bump and certainly nobody handling any admin for you.

A bit like using an insurance broker. You may save a bit by not using one, though you might not. And they do all the work/sort out protections etc.

Ended up with a broker last year as so few companies were offering insurance for the electric van. They have come down hugely on the cost this year whilst others have dallied. In the end Aviva have lost two customers as we've both now gone through the broker.

as you can guess, ive had my ear bent a few times on this one

while i accept booking a job lot means its on the supplier to make all the bits work, using my credit card gives me protection

oh, and paying cash to the accom while im there

if i was going on a cruise, which im not as ive still got most of my faculties, fair enough id be on to @victor meldrewlike a shot as he probably knows their game better than i do!

Yes, very much so. If owt goes wrong then you’ve got a pro arguing on your behalf with the experience to get it sorted

We always book a package, so I printed the airline’s quote and asked my local agent for a price match. They did and I got the additional value for them doing all the pissing about for me.

I like the fact that I know where to go if something happens.

Yep. Realise that.

This year's had four separate transactions with four different companies and if one goes tits up that's the holiday scuppered.

It does, but your credit card company won't refund instantly, nor will they resurrect your holiday, whereas an agent can often quickly find you an alternative without you having to pay out again, whilst awaiting a refund.

Swings and roundabouts.

I understand why folk would use a single supplier directly like a package holiday

But putting a number of different elements together with different providers and transactions. No thanks. Over to TrafTours who are superb. Did a fab job for us this year and organising next year’s jaunt. And he’s there on the end of a phone if owt needs sorting whilst your away

Oh yeah no doubt pal it’s just that I understand why folk are attracted to them. Mrs Manc is a fucker for it. Totally brainwashed by advertising

I booked flights out with Ryanair accomodation with Air BnB, car hire with a local firm and flights back with TUI.

A few weeks before the off TUI cancelled the return flight so had to sort one back sharpish with Jet 2.

I do realise there's a few links in that chain that could have gone tits up.

My lad goes through stuff so quickly with football. He's been lucky that he's been given some stuff from pros (think Adidas give a few freebies out to lower level players), but his preferred gloves are near £100 a time. He can go through five pairs a season. He gets nothing from his club other than training and match kit.

I've taken to trying to source his other stuff direct, maybe launching my own brand. I'm negotiating with suppliers over gloves and base layers. I've managed to get grip socks, and flogged a few pairs at cheaper than the cheapest I've found online.

I don't want to take the piss- I'm more interested in helping folk out and covering my time and money.

Is it worth me starting a thread?

My grandson plays at under 11 for Atherton Town and it's costing us £45+ for a pair of gloves for him

They are ridiculous nowadays. My lad always has at least two pairs on the go. Training, matches and occasionally a back up. He has day release, training three times a week on top, and matches Saturday and Sunday.

I can get my own gloves labelled up for less than £20- by all accounts top quality... Its the set cost and minimum orders that push the price up. I need to take the plunge- if I don't sell I'll at least save

I'll buy some off you if you get them up and running, it looks like his little brother (plays for under 7's) wants to go in goal too

And a pun thrown in for good measure. Bravo!

How long did it take Mrs Faustus to realise you were a keeper?

BD is investments related. I'd guess he would have a view on mortgages, but from a legal standpoint may not be able to give anything other than a view/opinion.

Iirc, Hazzy was in that line if work too.

Fwiw, a short term fixed may be worth looking at, as I see interest rates going up quite a bit more yet.

At the same time, if the war stops and things slowly ease then the pressure may not last too long, and it would be a bummer to end up stuck with a fixed job that is quite a bit higher than the base rate.

Ha cheers. Both options can be covered but fixed isn’t greatly appealing at the moment.

The thought of Truss and friends makes me think get fixed and 2024 will start to see the off shoots of recovery come next renewal time.

Tracker is a decent save though and I suspect it will keep going up I’ll be half way through the term etc so may end slightly better off.
