The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

Cheers pal

I had a meeting with ofgem this week.

Of course, this could change, but the chap (and he’s a good way up the chain) tells me that the price cap will be massive tomorrow.

But we all know that.

However, the new PM is going to introduce themselves with a big “present” for the country by reducing the cap back down to around the £2,500 mark.

All paid for by the banks and the energy lads. For now.

Well be paying for Covid and Ukraine longer than it took me to pay off my student loan.

But Rishi or Truss will be itching to keep it under wraps until they know who’s won.

All allegedly.

You Cunts.

If true, it would mean our bills are only the most expensive in Europe, rather than the entire universe.

Solar panels - now only 4 years to pay for themselves instead of 10 years. Interesting fact.

I’ve been watching videos on YouTube on hybrid solar power systems, it’s really got the geeks all giddy having it.    It’ll drive me mad I reckon, these new owners must spend all their time after work with the calculator out.

From what I’ve seen it benefits those with electric cars, but without one the time it’ll take for it to pay for itself can over double in time.   I’m thinking of going all electric anyhow, I only use gas for hot water and showers and been told these electric boilers nowadays are spot on.

Ta. Sorry if I didn’t explain earlier. Happy enough with quotes from lender. Just debating fixed or tracker for 2 year.

Be a great place to keep warm and if OAPs travel by bus they can get a full day of keeping warm for less than heating the house. They just need some ear plugs.

If its reet that we only import 7% of our fuel - dunno, maybe its not - why does ukraine get trotted out as a justification for massive increases?

What am I missing?

Sat on an island of coal, and new techniques what was in motion to prevent carbon entering the atmosphere at power stations, well done Missus Thatcher for closing them all down.

Not sure on the numbers quoted but simply those that did get from the Ukraine join the race for our supply etc creating greater demand.

Aye it spazzed the whole market.

At what point does attacking countries economies become an act of war?

But, if it is only 7%???

And its not surprising other european countries got in early and bought up what they could

The 7% isn’t important. Lots of places who rely on the Ukraine will want the 93% we get elsewhere. As Gonzo says it makes the demand too high. Naturally prices will go up with supply and demand and all that.

Edited by tomski

Ah, so we only import 7% but the 93% 'home grown' is being sold to the highest bidder?
