I think I am probably in agreement with RW that prison isn’t the right solution.

Wouldn’t community service be cheaper to run for those who aren’t a risk to the public. 5 years for this pair. 3/4 days a week litter picking, planting trees, clearing areas in their country. Surely that’s cheaper to run than housing & feeding them? Can even work & pay tax on their other days.

I think, as you say, a shitload of community service would have been sufficient. It's just going to cost us to have them banged up. Get them planting trees, picking litter, cleaning canals etc - they miss more than 2 sessions, then inside for a month, and then back to community service.

If the prisons really are full, then putting folk like this inside won't be helping that situation in the slightest

Whilst 4 years seems ridiculously long when compared to other sentences for far more serious crimes, I have absolutely no sympathy for them and hope they get bummed relentlessly for 4 whole years.

I think I've just seen Big E sprinting down the road, towards a local copse, with a chainsaw..........

Water shortages aren't solely the caused by climate change.

In fact, as well as hot dry periods, we are having intense rainfall periods, so adequate rain seems to be available.

Demand is simply outstripping supply.

The problem is how do you capture the water?

Intense rainfall falling onto dry soil is not going to top up groundwater levels easily

It can't be absorbed as well and as water finds the easiest routes it ends up in rivers or drains.

Plus when you have dry areas like the south east and rainy areas in the north, there's no infrastructure to move any water captured between the two so you'll have shortages

Certainly not easy.

Put it in the right place with feeder streams around here and hilly areas is generally adopted!

Flatter areas, aquifers, porous rock etc you'd imagine are more difficult.

Pretty sure I saw some pictures of one under construction that appeared to have a bloody great synthetic liner in it.

I agree re a distribution system- would make sense.

Should have converted HS2 into a fucking big pipe!

Still comes down to demand though.

When the infrastructure takes so long to create, but the population shoots up, problems are going to arise.

Double the problems too, as there is insufficient capacity to treat waste water neither.

Always playing catch up.

Anyway, how are you doing?

SWW in their infinite wisdom bought Bristol Water and now looking for a delivery partner for £1BN new reservoir with 25 year time frame at Cheddar

The water companies should be pushing Govt to insist new housing developments have split sewerage and surface water collection with partial treatment of collected rainwater fed back to houses for flushing bogs and washing machines but filed under too difficult. The 20,000 house new towns outside Plymouth on Duchy of Cornwall land was supposed to have used it but got lost in planning back handers.

I would happily sell our rainwater at vastly inflated prices to Thames water.

Money no object to them and their overseas shareholders , but we then get our corporation pop for free and no money to North west water shareholders.

Seeing as the tides are rising why don't we just use sea water?

We went to a lodge with a hot tub one time where they were using river water to fill it, even with the chemicals in it and the whirly things it stunk.

Why has she been allowed in our ground?

The "Wigan" venue for her tour apparently. We must be more strapped for cash than I realised if we're resorting to hosting racists performing for thickos.

Believe she got access via the hotel

But yeah, quite a serious breach and internal comms have gone out. She definitely wasn't invited/allowed fwiw

So she was just staying in the hotel as a customer, but somehow managed to get pitch-side?

No idea, but if she was it wasn't under her real name

Just had a quick google, and the venue for her Wigan gig was The Monaco in Wigan, so I suspect she was just staying at our hotel as a normal guest. I retract my earlier comment about us hosting her.
