Same as anyone else's that not played professionally?

It's been 18 years since Alan Shearer retired and 30 years since Lineker retired and the game has changed immeasurably since then so I don't see having played professionally as any sort of qualification. That said, I find some people who haven't played with good players tend to talk in cliches and don't really understand what the difficulties of playing under pressure are like.

Commentators who say "he failed to connect with the cross" when the cross was just too high/early/late/out of reach or "he couldn't control it" when the pass was misplaced or there were two others challenging for it grind my gears a bit.

I never played at the pro level, but I've played with/against folk who have and only then do you realise how quick, strong, skilful - and injury-free you have to be just to get a sniff of making a living as a pro footballer.

You don't have to be a pro to discuss it sensibly, but it does help if you have some experience of how hard it is to consistently play great football - especially under pressure from other great players - and although I slip into slagging players off occasionally, I genuinely admire the lot of them - they are all proper dedicated athletes.

It right annoyed me that.  We're generally a self deprecating bunch us English but to suggest that somehow we'd spoiled some festival of football by our opening performance is well wide of the mark imo. Putting aside the fact we scored 12 goals in our last 2 opening world cup games, the booing of the anthems, as bad as that is, was actually started by the Serbs.

It's been nice these last few days to see pics on Twitter of normal England fans, having a drink with opposing fans, being respectful of their environment etc.  You could be forgiven they exist thanks to all the attention given to the mongalongs and the 2 world wars & 1 world cup lot.

I wasn't very pleased with it either but thought it was worth sharing if only to get the blood pumping.

The comments on our performance and Southgate were on the money. Everyone knows he’s a dud….. he’s got short shelf life left and maybe he will not revert to type in the upcoming games.., here’s hoping.

There's not many journalists or commentators that have kicked a ball.

That fact doesn't make their opinion any less valid or worth listening roo as long as it's educated.

You're not getting many more informed than Andy Brassels or Kevin Hatchard. Then you've got esteemed journalists like Henry Winter and Co.

Nobody on here haw kicked a ball I'm anger but we are all experts :)

I just don't get how listening to some pretty informed chat on sports radio station is swallowing shit or everyone who is listening is a retard?

It's just people talking about stuff. Same as LBC, Same as 5 live.

There's nobody worse for talking utter shit than Sutton and Savage by the way, along with Clinton Morrison and Garth Crookes, fuck me I'll stick to Tabloid/Retard Radio thanks.

Wondering how many holes the Swiss cheeses will find tonight? Braveheart to grave fart in less than two hours again no doubt.

Expecting Germany to have another solid win.

Not sure If it's an age thing or perhaps the box tickers fault but I find mesel turning the volume off at h.time and turning over 2 mins after a game ends nowadays.

2 minutes- that long! 😁

Just got in so watching half time highlights of the Balkans derby, so don't mind the chat, but at full time, it's straight off.

I found the article bizarre, confusing and pointless.

Together with a hint of "anti-English".

Ah well, each to their own.

People always whinge about GSTK being a dreary anthem but it's better than the Hungarian one and many of the others.

The German one is a cracker if you don't sing the Nazi lyrics. Italians is probably my favorite one

Russian one is also excellent. Thankfully we won't hear it.

Away from Europe the Japanese anthem is tremendous- it totally reflects the character of the people.

Ex pros are usually the worst pundits, I much prefer listening to journalists.

If Hungary had put one of their early chances away, then this game could have become very different. As it is, Germany have gradually strangled Hungary and made it difficult for them to have much possession.

Still in it though- hopefully Hungary will come out and have a go again. Look decent enough up top to grab a goal.

Agreed. It's the best one around IMO.

Such a shame its for a country run by a lunatic.
