They were in Div 2 and us Div 3, drew 1st leg 2-2 (2 legs in first 2 rounds then!).

Great atmosphere in our end with the acoustics of being under that small roof, I remember Caldwell bagging one in front of us, possibly Chandler or Oghani with the other.  Won 2nd leg 2-1, it felt like a giant killing 😀

2nd leg wasn't till 10th Oct, we were still in cup at end of Oct instead of the usual out in August.  It really felt like we were on a cup run, about 2k of us went to Notts County midweek for 3rd round to see the infamous 6-1 defeat.

That was after the 2 legged win over Oldham in the previous round iirc. The 4-4 draw at Boundary Park one of the most mental nights I ever had watching us.  Closely followed by that Notts County match!

For some reason although I went to Shrewsbury and Notts Co, I didn't go to either leg v Oldham, I remember listening on radio to the 4-4 game, crazy result.  2 legs and extra time, none of this going straight to pens nonsense then!

Wasn't it 6-0 to Notts at H-T?  And they were rock bottom of Div 2.  We celebrated pulling one back in 2nd half like it was an equaliser.

Yes, proper exciting forward line they were, a bit unappreciated because they never played in a decent Bolton side and so were never going to get the legendary status of a promoted team.

Scored 5 in 7 minutes unless my noggin is letting me down.  I can clearly remember us kicking off each time, immediately losing possession then conceding again. Pedro bloody Richards got the other. About the only goal of his career.  Awesome support that night though.

I went down there in one of two transit vans from Adlington. The second transit was driven by Lindsey Hoyle.

We took a really bad route and got to the ground at half time. Luckily they had one turnstile still open. As we waited to get in a rumour started spreading that we were 5.0 down.

I asked a policeman who was stood at the turnstile was it really 5.0 and he started laughing and said no! much to my momentary relief...its 6!

But we won the second half.

They had one turnstile open at kick off iirc.... Asked the bloke on the gate how many Bolton they were expecting as we were queuing deep by then .... He said a couple of hundred!

Sat in the home in for that notts county game, sat right at the back of the stand, looked behind me just as we kicked off and Brian clough was sat in the seat behind me. He looked like he was trying to be incognito.
