Just made me realise we've had some really shit draws for some time now.

We tend to get fodder games, progress then a difficult championship/lower league prem side and lose.

I am glad though at least it's Salop, good chance to progress in to round 3 and then hopefully get a big tie on TV.

Interesting to see that Shrewsbury started 8 players in their cup game that started their first league game. In the first round at least they decided not to make wholesale changes.

Looking at their squad, it's probably more through necessity than choice.

One other comment on last night was our clear it was that we're bringing 11 back at corners, it doesn't even get mentioned now, its routine.  So many times we couldn't clear our lines especially 1st half, Mansfield loved getting a 2nd and 3rd chance to put the ball in the box every time they had a corner.  Still baffling and infuriating and whatever new system or players we have, that remains a constant that will result not only in goals conceded but less breakaway chances to score, IMO.

One of my major frustrations last season this. I can almost forgive not leaving a man up front from the corner if we're wanting to be very defensive (I don't agree that Charles is any use in our box though) but to not cover the edge of the box is ridiculous.

I've got visions of MacLean waiting at the edge of the box for a free shot all game on Sunday...

Shrewsbury away, 2nd round of League Cup, exactly 40 years ago, Gay Meadow. 

They were in Div 2 and us Div 3, drew 1st leg 2-2 (2 legs in first 2 rounds then!).

Great atmosphere in our end with the acoustics of being under that small roof, I remember Caldwell bagging one in front of us, possibly Chandler or Oghani with the other.  Won 2nd leg 2-1, it felt like a giant killing 😀

2nd leg wasn't till 10th Oct, we were still in cup at end of Oct instead of the usual out in August.  It really felt like we were on a cup run, about 2k of us went to Notts County midweek for 3rd round to see the infamous 6-1 defeat.
