Don’t Northampton have the record for being the only team to go from 4th division to first division in consecutive years then back down again the same?

They're the only team since the introduction of the PL who have remained in the EFL and never played in the top 2 divisions.

Almost.  Started and finished the 60s in Div 4 and were in Div 1 by 65,  spent 2 seasons in each of Divs 3 and 2.

Back to Div 3 two years later but stopped up for one year before further relegation to Div 4 by 69.

Pipped us to promotion back to Div 1 1965 I think .We had games in hand but blew it .Seem to remember drawing with Charlton & Swindon at home in the run-in .Didn’t get anywhere near to promotion to the top league until the late seventies after that .

Northampton finished second & Newcastle won it (obviously no playoffs then)

Some things never change !

Why we have momentum

great run of fixtures before brum and Stevenage has been pulled so full steam ahead

Agree. Mental shout. Our games in hand were as useful as a chocolate fireguard last season.

That's right. Went on to win at Wembley then iirc Thomas and Morgan both left in the summer and Reeves and Philliskirk came in. The run ended at Rochdale in a 1st leg league cup tie but I can't remember who ended the league run.

Rotherham away which was thefifth game of the season ( Thanks Rothmans)

Not sure what to make of Northampton this season - seem to struggle but raise their game against the better teams. Beat Huddersfield comfortably.

I know I sound like a stuck record but it all comes down to how well we play. Hopefully another buoyant performance, ideally with us getting the first goal to set the tone.

Feel like there is gonna be a bit of rotation tonight with a Tue, sat, Tue week. Both these next two league games are winnable, would be nice to get to the international break in the playoffs.

The second Tue is an EFL Trophy game.

I hate it when stats are used from 1992 omitting over 100 years history. Fuck off, not you😀

Barring injuries etc, I'm expecting not only the same starting line up as Crawley but the same substitutions, around the same minutes!

Assuming we aren't about 3 down or there's a sending off like Tomo's last time we played here.  And maybe Williams will also come on to "get some minutes".

Yes, its a good stat that I wasn't aware of, but in Northampton's case they haven't played in the top 2 divisions since the mid 60s so they are the only club to have remained in the EFL for over 50 years never to have played in the top 2 divisions in that time, rather than "just" 30-ish years.
