Stockport, Orient, Wycombe and  Charlton. Who’d have thought they have better teams than us? Not me TBH. Something fundamentally has to change. How well we are equipped to make the necessary changes I genuinely don’t know but I have little choice but to back Schumacher to do it now.

If we accept that Southwood is a downgrade on Baxter of a year ago, and Hutch is a downgrade on Southwood or Coleman as backups, I wouldn't say GK is the least of our problems.  As soon as Southwood gets injured, it arguably becomes our biggest problem, and even if he stays fit its still an area that can be improved.

We've lost a top L1 keeper, there's no logic at all in not replacing him for me.

My interpretation of Baxter leaving is that, if SS was unsure who his number 1 was, then get rid of one and buy a better one.

New keeper incoming who (he thinks) is better than Baxter

Agreed.  Not replacing him just isn't an option IMO.  And keepers are relatively easy to sign on frees or loans because if they aren't 1st choice they aren't happy, its a unique situation compared to outfield players.

I don't see Southwood as a problem, he's decent at this level. Its the shambles in front of him that's the problem.

I think that’s part of the plan and why we’ve given Hutch a new contract. Southwood certainly won’t want to be a definite No2 again and I believe will seek pastures new. Neither Baxter or Southwood have proved good enough and it’s sensible to replace them both if possible and save two wages, three if you include Coleman. As for Hutch I have no problem with him being a stand in and don’t think he’ll let us down if called upon and we do have young keepers coming through in the youth and B Teams as well. A top keeper is what we’re missing.

Ms Brittan should be well aware of the need for at least two competent experienced keepers on the books. After she & Evatt both alluded to Baxter's injury costing us promotion in the 23/24 season.

Yep. He’ll be out on loan again with the option to call him back if needed. Think he’s well rated within the club though. Just not ready yet.

Its never dressed up that way with two "proven" keepers eg Southwood and Baxter, they are just told at start of season to battle it out for the no.1 spot.  If one hasn't started a league game by Christmas then yes he'd be looking to leave in January maybe.  But he's under contract so if we want to keep him as no.2 we keep him to the end of the season.  

There will be champ teams who have a clear no.1 and a decent back up keeper who's not prepared to hang around any more, they are the types we could get (like Baxter was IIRC).  Or young unproven Prem/champ loans with potential.

Or a 34+ years old with bags of experience in the top two divisions (or Swiss for example) who knows his career's begining to run down but has lots still to offer.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of it all are, the fact is he wasn't the same player. 

He wanted out and has gone.

Why any professional footballer is on twitter or better still reads the comment's is beyond me.

Santos on his day was a beast of a defender but those days wained by the second. He was a massive victim of our silly slow tepid build up and him standing on the ball will be more synonymous with his time here than being one of the best defenders in the league.

After that play off final the cunts got off lightly. We sold bags of season tickets, sold out most aways and were there with a near full house at start of season. 

That's what you judge support on not reading some 14 year olds on twitter.

Points to why he never played at a higher level and only found himself at L1 relatively late in his career.

He proved that he had the physical attributes to be more than good enough in this league and probably make it in the Champ if he’d have made L1 earlier in his career. That he didn’t is all between his ears for me.

To be honest I’m glad he’s gone, he fucking stunk the place out and was a walking liability.  Shit me up numerous times, it was akin to watching campo at centre half fucking about with it. Fortunately Big Sam got onto that one quickly and shifted him forward one.

This club was the pinnacle of his career regardless of his or his Mrs’ egos. Fucking shit and good riddance.

Really rated him highly for the most part, obviously had some stupid mistakes in & wasn't the most focused of defender but on a free transfer with not much expected of him he did well relatively speaking. Just a shame we didn't cash in on him when his stock was high enough at a good age, same with Sheehan if we don't do with him at least we managed to shift Dion before he was completely finished. Don't really care where Santos ends up, I doubt he'll play much anyway I think Evatt ran his faves into the ground & the likes of Toal, Baxter, Dion, Santos, Demps haven't got over playing through specific injuries when our fixture schedule was chaotic.

Aye let's not rewrite history. 

Santos was an absolute beast for a couple of seasons. Team of the year, the papa John's season in particular he was our whole heartbeat.

Other teams hated him. Every time he was out of the team we turned to rat shit.

He just ran out steam like the rest of them. He took the brunt for Toal and Jones too. 

That Red card at Blackpool was the beginning of the end.
