Stevenage (A)

Are we assuming will be postponed due to International call ups ?

ACD must be close to U21s if he made long squad last time. Not sure what Stevenage have and if any earlier postponements they had were due to other teams ?

Bradford at home is the week after and away tickets for that were sold out last week. No mention that I have seen about these.

  • This is a massive game, can we get some momentum ? Or was Saturday a blip ?    As far as possible I would keep the team as is. I get people putting McAtee forward but for it almost feels as tho

What will happen is that other managers will work out this formation, as well. What we have introduced is a variation to how we set up. As @Tombwfc rightly says, yesterday does not mean we will play l

I'm not sure that's correct.

We are both splitting hairs, but if we are to play with two wingers again we might see two forwards and no number 10

Pretty sure the one forward has been potted

He did change it at the start of last season after the Oxford debacle had bent his brain.

Aye he tried the same system as Anorim.

3 CBs never changed like but he 100% changed the midfield and attack. He lost his fucking mind.

Left us massively open in midfield. He switched it back, we picked up slightly, then he went back to it the massive pillock.

He was like the lad we saw in the play off game for Barnsley on Sat.

Proper pest, exactly what we needed.

He was the same at Doncaster and Huddersfield and coincided with decisive goals there too, and its not like we've scored many away.  Not perfect by any means, and had that miss at Huddersfield, but he just seems to get far more involved and makes situations happen, as you say a pest.  Whether or not he/we has the guile to finish them off, but its a low bar.  I know its maybe easier coming on as sub for 20 minutes than playing for 95, but he has to be worth a chance because the alternative hasn't been working for a long time, what is there to lose.

His little cameo on Saturday, combined with Burstow continuing to miss chances (he played ok for balance) means I’d give him a start alongside Dalby tomorrow.

No other changes. Tutu can come off later on if he’s knackered.

You're both right.

Very kind of my brain to repress the memory of the piss-weak low-sock brigade watching our balls go over their heads, and opponents saunter past them.

Yuck.

What has Evatt said, @gonzo?

Quite a lot of talk on their forum about wanting their manager sacked!? Had no idea there was any discontent there. they're 8th with a few games in hand, strange one.

Need to back up the Wigan result with another good performance and result. They have only lost once at home all season, last minute to Cardiff, so won't be easy, but a win would be huge and will put us in good stead for the weekend with some big fixtures at the top.

As far as possible I would keep the team as is. I get people putting McAtee forward but for it almost feels as though he is trying too hard (sounds daft) so all seems a bit frantic. He gives silly free kicks away and when we need something simple there is always a back heel 😂😂

Just think we have done enough shuffling and changing the team on a whim. Let’s go there start as we did Saturday, finish the chances and then look at changing it around.

I get it.. But Saturday - Tuesday is a real slog.

Saturday-Saturday I'd be leaving things alone, but we could have real drop off in the game without adequate freshness (we could have it anyway, due to personnel to be fair though, so....)

Realistically the team isn't gonna be the same as Saturday given the quick turn around. More than likely Christie will come in and i would expect maybe dempsey to start aswell.

I’m sure that they’ll take heart from the Schumacher out thread on our site.

Both sets of fans have massive expectations of this season, in their case because they started so well but this year league one is a proper dog fight with more than half the league thinking they can go up - and with good reason - there are only 10 points between the playoff and relegation spots with half a season to go.

Expectations are high and fuses are short.

When did it become such a problem for players to play 2 games in a week?

Mansfield played 3 games in 7 days (Barnsley away, Bolton away, Bradford at home), made very few subs and hardly changed the starting 11 with at least 7 players playing all 3 games… and won them all.

I bet every one of the 11 that started on Saturday wants to start tomorrow. If there’s injuries then fine, but if not then just send them out again and make subs if you can see some running out of steam. They’re professional athletes in their 20s (mostly) - 7-10km twice in 4 days shouldn’t be such a problematic situation.

Remember us playing 2 days running in 1994!

Don’t change a winning team. That’s still the very best mantra to go on.

How does that play out when the team that started failed to win, or even score, but the team that finished won 1-0.  Which team do you keep?

Win this

There is... but the best thing to come out of Saturday (other than the 3 points and collective Wigan piss-boil) is that opposing managers now have to try to second guess what our setup will be, and plan accordingly.

No more knowing *exactly* what we're trying to do, and spending a week drilling fullbacks on showing wingers outside.

Spot on.  That was one of the most frustrating thing about Evatt.  He may as well have emailed the opposition manager every week explaining what formation and style we'd be playing.

Let down by time wasters  (@Steejay 😉) The AHM have got room for a one if you are in the Horwich/Howfen area.

No runners are scarfers.

I can remember two games in two days, though not sure what year.

Think one was away at Sunderland.

Iirc, both games were nil-nil.

I’ve been one of the critics of changes for changes sake but i also think it should be horses for courses. We matched up Wigan on Saturday and to not sound to negative didn’t think we created a wealth of chances. For me I would change it just to match them up, I’d bring in Gale for Burstow, and Dempsey for Johnston and go back to a 4-2-3-1 with duberry and Gale on the opposite sides. Simple instruction, get it wide, get to the byline and get balls in the box with runners

Stick to the Wigan set up IMO.

It is not as though the ‘old’ system away from home was working well.

We have all been banging on about how we improve our away form.

I think too much emphasis gets put on what the team looks like when arranged in a static formation before a game.

And I don't think that's what won the game on Saturday.

Another away win......
