Oldham Athletic (A) - EFL Trophy

Interesting on the post match interviews that they are bigging this game up.

An opportunity for the squad to excel again.

A winning draw on penalties - could be the most irrelevant penalty shoot-out ever 😂

  • So pleased and proud for Toby and his  family. They are Bolton through and through. I know his dad really well. He posted on here during the European days. If you’re lurking pal - congratulations

What a game, missed pen, 8 goals, hit post, hit bar, missed chances for both teams.  What a great way to spend a Tuesday night and all for £10 ! home for 9-30, a bacon sarnie and a brew watching the

  • Shame about conceding a couple, but this has been a great run-out for our second string. This is easily the strongest squad we've had since Football Ventures took over, and the youth system is bearing

Quite enjoying this. Wish it was Blackpool or the pie men but this will do...

And me, clearly catching the eye, done well tonight

Good for Dempsey to get 90 minutes in, done well but a few mistakes too. But building match fitness

not a good moment at end for keeper

plenty of chances, plenty of goals, squad confidence, squad positive vibes continue, was a good watch.

Probably fatigued

Can't argue with that.

Missed a pen, had one or two cleared off the line (by our own), and hit the bar.

Not bad for a mish-mash team.

could have been double figures that

I guess I’ve been spoiled by watching the first team play as I was half expecting an identical style but with marginally less talented players, but it turned out completely different.
Thought all the youngsters did ok, and some of the fringe players showed touches of class which made the difference but a few were below par including Morley and Dempsey. I’m still not getting Dalby either tbh even though I want him to do really well.

TBF these players don’t usually play together and it showed, so I gave up with looking for great performances and settled back into watching the spectacle of the goal fest. And it was great.

Not quite working for Dalby yet, but still seen enough to think he can be a big player for us.

Plenty time for him to settle with Burstow doing well.

Best decision to sit back and enjoy the goal fest, as there’s really little else you can determine about what tonight means for any player.

Tutu and Forss looking great doesn’t mean a great deal in the same way that Morley and Dempsey can’t be derided for being under-par (I actually thought they were fine, as was Dalby!)

At times it lacked cohesion, was messy and disjointed, not surprising considering this teams been thrown together for tonight in atrocious conditions - we’re not all lucky enough to be be abroad pretending it’s ideal sunny conditions in Oldham 😂

They deserve credit for banging in 6 tonight and giving the 1500 fans an entertaining night 👏

It’s a great night for young Ritchie that’s for sure.

I think that Morley is very limited in what he brings. Particularly as we are now much stronger in midfield.

really enjoyed that . A goal fest with loads of chances , scoreline could have been anything up to 10-4. Some decent football In horrible horrible conditions . No injuries , more game time for those that needed it and some good debuts.

Anyone know if the young lad is any relation to Andy Ritchie ?

What did he do wrong?

He missed a penalty.

I saw someone who was calm and composed In awful conditions, rarely gave the ball away, brought the second 11 players around him into the game, held up some players around him who’ve hardly had 90 minutes all season.

I’d be surprised if any of the stats suggested there was a better midfielder out there tonight.

Momentum continues.

Might be fairly meaningless from a result perspective, but the winning run continues. Add in the goals and the run out for a few players and it’s a successful night.

Really enjoyed that.

winning is ace.

Not sure what that proves? Where does that ranking come from? Dempsey was lower than him as were the Oldham CMs.

Which other midfielder retained possession, passed better, screened his defence better and was more involved than Morley tonight?

Thought Forss was the outstanding player for me, very unlucky not to score before he did but always looked composed on the ball and available. Really took his goals well so let’s hope he can bring this to the first team now.
