Burndens Bogs
It's not often i go in town during the day, yesterday i was in with my little girl doing a few bits - Jeyyysus, whats happened to the place? Smackrats Shell suited shoplifters Sad eyed lonely pisspots Pound shops and cheap tat everywhere Masses of eastern European gyppos People who don't wash too often I think i'll go upmarket next year and go to Farnworth. Moderators Carlos Posted December 24, 2008 Moderators Share Posted December 24, 2008 In a moment of uncharacteristic seriousness: I blame Bolton Council, for their gross mismanagement of the town. Their vans proudly proclaim "Looking after the Bolton Family" in twattish multi-colour. Some of us don't need looking after, just empty my bins and I'm happy. Fill the town with peasants and the centre will inevitably look like what Bogsy describes. Your Nazi parking attendants have helped drive away anyone with any money to Middlebrook and the Trafford Centre. Places where coincidently you don't get accosted by Del Boy characters selling tat or trying to force store cards upon you. Take a look at the people milling round the centre on any week day, not one of the fcukers has any money, that's why the town is full of pound shops. Debenhams is the height on sophistication in Bolton, I can't begin to point out how backwards that makes us look. Woolies will be gone soon, I can't think of a single business who will take on a space that big. The Market Hall is literally an abortion. Allowing Primark to take the exit of the Arndale/Crompton Place away, directing people back past more shit shops can only hit trade on Bradshawgate. The estate agents on Bradshawgate will be closing down en mass in the new year, the travel agents will be next, who knows which big high street names will be gone, Bolton town centre could end up going the same way as Harwood Precinct. Having lived in rossendale for 22 years i used to enjoy taking the wife and kids shopping in bolton. I stopped 10 years ago when it began to change. I remember Newport st in the 70's when it it was fully of quality shops and the market hall and market had character. its manchester and skipton for me these days . however its not only bolton council who are imbeciles, many other towns have it wrong as well. rossendale are driving people away with their anti car policy. Great if you need a porn mag, a tattoo or some second hand clothes. This is the first part of the town you see when you get off the train, I'd be amazed if some people didn't make it as far a Great Moor St.
Smiley
all the fast food chains on Bradshawgate have garish signs. all run by the same sort. all visited by gangastawannabees. bring back Olivers! and Division One!
colditz
I was justing thinking this the other day when i was in town. What a dump, its embarrassing. Its still got one of the finest town halls in the country and Le mans Crescent is very impressive. The Market place is acceptable aswell. But the rest of it,where the market is, where Morrisons is, the top of Great Moor St, the incongruous bridge on Newport St, Newport St itself which is the first thing you see when you come out of the train station, its a disgrace. Goes worse every year. The council pay millions to consultancies and developing their website to make it sound like they do a good job and really they squander our money, thats when they are not of sick. gary nevilless !! Site Supporter Spider Posted December 24, 2008 Site Supporter Share Posted December 24, 2008 He's right The town centre is just a massive flea pit. Working class people tend to be just that - working. It's the Jeremy Kyle brigade who have nothing better to do except wait for their next instalment of free money so they can buy more smack so decide a wander into a metrolpolis brimming with pound shops and plastic shoes will while away the time. If the council got rid of the parking nazis and employed people to sweep these hopeless scroungers up and dump them in a field, then the town centre could become something to be proud of. Cut off their smack and Henleys T-Shirt money and they'd have to stay in their skips.

Not this thread, which I think Carlos is right about. But many other threads lead me to the conclusion that the site has far too many sanctimonious tossers for my liking. Boby Brno
When I was a young lad growing up in a terraced house in Little Hulton, we considered anyone who was educated ie went to university, owned a semi detached house and owned a car as being middle class! Neither my Mum or Dad had any of these but would still consider Bolton town centre to be a s*it hole compared to what it used to be!

frank_spencer
Whoever thought sticking that structure up would be a good idea, needs shooting, it's hideous it is a bit cumbersome but as it was paid for by the council it needed to be the cheapest option so a single arch bridge was just that under new Network rail rules clearance above the tracks has increased since the old bridge was built so the strength of the bridge had to be above the deck it self in order to achive the required clearance. anything else you'd like to slag off without knowing the facts? no balls
But Frank, it still looks shit. We, the taxpayer, were sold this monstrosilty as being "The Gateway to Bolton" and not a cheap bridge required under new legislation. If the council want to add spin, then folk are entitled to have an opinion on the bridge's aesthetics.
