I thought it was a red card myself, bollocks about him getting the ball, it's reckless. Football needs more tackling where the ball is taken cleanly not some mug diving in on a player as quick as Walcott.

according to the rules, its almost certainly a foul

One footed, studs down, took the ball. Kev does this every other week.

Infact if the tackle was by SKD there would be a five page thread about how fantastic it was.

Def a foul that. Yes he got the ball first but he went straight through Walcott. Sure, a few years ago that would have been ok but these days you would be lucky not to get a yellow.

I can't believe what I'm reading.

So how exactly can you tackle these days, if you can't touch the opposing player?

Tackling from behind was outlawed but he beat Walcott to the ball clean as a whistle, absolutely perfect tackle

The only rule is that the tackle shouldn't be reckless, which is wide open for interpretation

However I don't see what's reckless about taking the ball cleanly after the forward's touch bounces a yard off him

Hey, I don't make the rules! I agree, he got the ball clean and he didn't go in with studs up, just saying thats the way the game is these days...

A clever player would of avoided the tackle but Walcott seems to be good at getting injured. Quite a few times you see players jump in that situation when they realise they arent getting there first but Walcott didnt for some reason.

When the likes of Norman Hunter, Tommy Smith and Chopper Harris were playing, do you remember loads of careers being ended by some of the proper tackles which were the norm then? I don't.

Like everything else, it's heading down the pansy trail. They have us all wrapped in bubble wrap soon and feed us liquids through straws so them nasty solid foods don't get stuck in our throats.

A perfectly timed tackle.

Perhaps not but lives curtailed by disability

A survey of 284 former professional footballers found almost half had serious health problems, mainly affecting their joints. The knee suffered most damage. Almost one in two of the former players had the chronic joint disease osteoarthritis, most often affecting the knee. The average age at diagnosis was 40 but some said pain had forced them to give up their career....

.....Former Liverpool player Tommy Smith can now barely walk. He has been declared 40 per cent disabled by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

surely this was down to them not being as fit, playing through injuries and playing 2 or 3 times a week all year round, without proper recooperation time?

I dunno. The evenings after the good old days weren't so good for some though

absolutely cracking challenge, we need more like this and more refs not givin free kicks!!

Walcotts first touch lets him down, the defender is more than entitled to go for the ball, he thinks he can win it and he does; one footed with his studs down. Its a shame for Walcott that he gets clattered in the process but theres nothing wrong with the tackle. Football is still a contact sport so players are going to get injured, until its a non-contact sport theres nothing wrong with this.

Thing is, football used to be a mans game, now its riddled with soft fairies prancing about and people whinging when someone gets tackled cause they could hurt them, this goes on week in week out on pitches all over the country (saturday/sunday league).

Well done Ridgwell!!

i dont think walcott is a tart, he prob did get hurt but thats just unlucky imo.

as a couple said, his 1st touch let him down and the ball was there to be won.

Great tackle!!

Soft southern wankers are always making accusations about being targeted and roughed up.

Funny how Arsenal have had way more red cards in the last few years than dirty northern bastards like us.
