gonzo Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 call me a morbid fucker and not wanting to tempt fate, but would this fixture not be the ideal target for a terroist attack?...
Guest Frandsen08 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Morbid Fucker. and yeah a lad at work said the same thing when the teams were drawn out.
jules_darby Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Depends which terrorists Would be a bad idea for the likes of Al Quaeda They successfully use an anti-West (USA & England very much included) message that we are oppressors to stoke up sympathy, but they'd lose alot of support by targetting a World Cup which is seen globally as the People's game. Especially with it being held in South Africa - countless victims would be ordinary Africans and I think that would disaffect their support particularly from Islamic Africans. Then again, I'd not rule it out

Burndens Bogs Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 It's a depressing thought.......but a genuine threat. I only hope security is at it's best.
no balls Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Gonzo, may I suggest your mind's being warped by the viewing material you watch?
Didledee Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Apparently there will be fighter jets near and will be ordered to shoot down anything that is flying and not identifying themselves.
kent_white Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Apparently there will be fighter jets near and will be ordered to shoot down anything that is flying and not identifying themselves. It's the local birdlife I feel sorry for.

frank_spencer Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 It'll be reet anyway there's plenty of 'hardnuts' out there in SA who'd see of Al Qaeda with a barrage of plastic garden furniture.
Didledee Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 You reckon they might train lions over there, like we do with dogs?
bolty58 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 You reckon they might train lions over there, like we do with dogs? Define 'train'?
Didledee Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Like to search for drugs and be used like a police lion?
bolty58 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Like to search for drugs and be used like a police lion? Many thanks. I will sleep well tonight now. I have seen your dog training techniques on video and was starting to worry that you might dip your schlong in Marmite.
kent_white Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 If I were a terrorist - I reckon I'd go for the Tour De France - on the summit, just before the descent. They really do need to start thinking outside the box!

Any chance to blow-up or destroy life they'll do it - them bastards would shoot up a school if it had the wrong flag in. The Al Quaeda hierarchy would love to get the World Cup cancelled and to create as much mayhem and destruction as possible.

Any chance to blow-up or destroy life they'll do it - them bastards would shoot up a school if it had the wrong flag in. The Al Quaeda hierarchy would love to get the World Cup cancelled and to create as much mayhem and destruction as possible. Wasn't saying they have either morales or scruples, but attacking Africans may be a negative step for them strategically as they have a large African Muslim support - doing it at the 1st world cup in Africa may split said follower's loyalties Don't forget they rope in impoverished and deemed "oppresssed" citizens by blaming the West for their situation - most follk just want what's best for them and their families (look at findings on ordinary Iraqis and Afghans switching allegiance due to this for example) And as the WC is bringing Africa a little business and prosperity, it wouldn't be taken well by your average African, even the Muslims in the North - add to that the human factor - it's been well stated that this is the World Cup of the ordinary people - with lots of local ordinary Africans being able to afford to be in the crowd - blowing them up would dent pro Al-Quaeda support amongst some. Like I said, they may well ignore that factor, but they think about this more than they're given credit for as they understand it's the preceived oppression of the poor Muslim that has allowed their movement to grow so much....if the Evil West did exactly the same things yet your average Pakistani, Iraqi or Afghan had the same quality of life that we had, the movement would be almost nullified in those areas
superbobby Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Anyone remember 1996? England v Scotland at Wembley followed the IRAs urban regeneration in Manchester earlier in the day. Incidentally the Trooping of the Colour was on the same day......
Bigtoe Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Like to search for drugs and be used like a police lion? How would you know it was a police lion, and not an ordinary lion. I take it would have a uniform and ID ? Probably 2 pairs of shoes too?
Didledee Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I was thinking like a badge and a police hat. I wouldn't like to be the one to start training one though.
