Opposite way round at the moment where the inhabitants of the northern states head south for winter. Known as ‘Snowbirds’ they massively increase Florida’s population during the north’s snowfall period. I’m no expert but there must be some middle ground between the snowy north and hot-as-fuck south where folk from both areas can escape their own areas. Slight problem is that’s where tornadoes form. The onus is on the “big boys” Quote

Dartford Crossing is only eight or so miles away from that hill. Actually that field is full of broad bean plants, and the field before in wheat so as the signs says, please don't pick as we're producing your food. That house is actually the site of Lullingstone Roman Villa, so can't be built on. Quote

Nor is gdp relevant if it drops per person. It's all very well saying we should fund these places, but they're not always reliable, as we see with foreign aid. Has to be some sort of covenant, whereby those funding get better assurances, or its just more money down the drain. Quote

A lot of these former French and British colonies will do whatever they can to survive. The African countries in particular are the poorest on earth and won’t give a fuck about wind farms and Teslas and British holidaymakers having to wait until 5pm to get into the acropolis. The Big Boys need to make sure they get their own houses in order first and cut CO2. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Of course we must put our own house in order. I don't accept developing nations aren't interested in renewables. If they are investing/have oil supplies then they can use that wealth in the same way we are. South Africa one other African nation (Algeria?) already produce more co2 annually than we do, so they have the money to do so. They could also share that with poorer African nations. If they are further behind, then they can avoid the mistakes we made and jump straight into the modern world utilising the technologies we now have. Payment is the problem, and I'll repeat some agreements must be made in that regard. Quote

Mainly, but China is also installing more renewables than anyone else, as well as making big inroads into exports, for example battery technology. Yes they use a lot of fossil fuels, but they see the market for "green tech" and pursue it. Unfortunately, it seems some see it as a dirty word and cannot accept the economic and environmental benefits we can all have. Quote

My sister says it’s as hot as she’s known it in the 30 years she’s lived there. Today was ridiculous apparently. Im still going, but a new aircon system in our apartment is a large factor. No aircon, and I’d be giving it a miss if the forecasts were the same Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Aircon powered by renewables I hope. Saw an interview with a bloke in Italy earlier- lives out there and people go for holidays to his place. He reckons they don't have aircon in his area, as they spoil the buildings! Quote

I was there last week and it was fucking baking hot. My sister just put on the family group chat that it’s unbearable in the direct sunlight this afternoon. The bloke who works at the bar is from Seville, so knows a thing or 2 about a hot day, and even he packed it in at 2pm and shut the bar til 7. Look, it’s Spain, it’s hot. That’s not unusual, but the ferocity really is summert else. 2 more weeks of it as well. Quote
