Not in Crawley Posted July 16, 2023 Posted July 16, 2023 Stunning today - 7 mile walk this morning in the Darenth Valley. Lavender resplendent, glorious corn fields, was like a piece of Vaughan Williams music. Quote

Opposite way round at the moment where the inhabitants of the northern states head south for winter. Known as ‘Snowbirds’ they massively increase Florida’s population during the north’s snowfall period. I’m no expert but there must be some middle ground between the snowy north and hot-as-fuck south where folk from both areas can escape their own areas. Quote

My view is that if a company hasn’t made the required changes by 2050 (or similar), then they won’t have a viable future. Therefore investing in the future is best for the planet and me. I’ve been interested since the mid 80s, I think Friends Provident launched their Stewardship Fund in 1985 and then the Ecology fund started in 1988. Both have performed well. Quote

So if a company starts to underperform, despite a morally sound outlook, you’ll stay invested? For what it’s worth, have a look at a Swedish company called Nibe. You can buy me a pint in a few years…. Quote

I don’t invest directly in many companies, I’m more content being in funds, as my money is managed. I think it more appropriate to pay for management of ethically invested funds, as there are wider issues and understanding to consider, that it is too difficult for (this) individual investor to access. Philosophically I’d look to stay invested and ride the ups and downs. I’ll look at Nibe. Quote

As it happens, a minor version of that has already happened- Greece (iirc) introduced a system whereby only certain number plates could go on the roads on a given day. Ulez, ltns etc all minor versions. Should things continue as they are, it is certainly feasible that draconian measures come into being. Maybe not like those suggested, but of some form. As pointed out in the article, shots from space showed clean air over China illustrated changes during covid so there is some evidence that measures may work, but hopefully the world will get its act together before the need.
