kent_white
No. 99.99999999% of the helium thats been around since the earth formed is still here on earth. Is that the case? Where is it exactly? Zico's 'don't worry about running out of helium' article seemed to suggest otherwise. 'practically all of the Earth’s helium – 99.997% to be precise – has escaped into space through a peculiar mechanism called ion outflow.' Anyway - I'm not really sure why you've got the massive hump about this other than because I disagreed with you about climate change? I suspect neither of us really understand enough about chemistry to debate the complexities, so until then, I'll stick with the scientific concensus. If that concensus changes as new evidence is presented, I'll happily switch sides and start burning stacks of tires for fun. Back to space stuff though, we may have lost Pluto as a planet, but we might be gaining another 2 soon! http://arstechnica.com/science/2015/01/the-solar-system-may-have-two-undiscovered-planets/
Whites man
From Wiki Helium is a finite resource and is one of the few elements with escape velocity, meaning that once released into the atmosphere, it escapes into space.
Site Supporter MickyD Posted January 22, 2015 Site Supporter Share Posted January 22, 2015 From memory, helium make up around 80% of the atmosphere. If it fucks off through a hole it must be being replaced by a different gas otherwise we're looking towards being in a vacuum. The question is, which gas is going to fill in the space created by the lack of helium?

Moderators Zico Posted January 22, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 22, 2015 What the fucks happened to Pluto? Did you know, and you may as I think I read it on here but am not sure, so anyway: in the time from when Pluto was discovered and named as a planet to the time it was decided it wasn't and was demoted to asteroid or rock or something, that it did not complete it's orbit of the sun

Big City Girl
I've just finished reading 'The Martian'by Andy Weir. A great book and quite funny. Surprised I liked something so technical. Learned loads about space so I'm going to apply to be an Astronaut.

kent_white
I really fancy Mark Watney, even though I have no idea what he looks like. I've googled the name and this is the first image that came up. That means you definitely fancy this man. http://www.sterling.edu/sites/default/files/images/Mark%20Watney.jpg

bgoefc
Seems like this 67p comet has a big crack in its surface. Might split in two at some stage. I never realised that the water discovered on it is completely different than our water scuppering the theory that all earths water came from comets. http://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/dec/10/water-comet-67p-earth-rosetta

I studied (supposedly) chemistry and when it got to the quantum mechanics etc it was indeed a headfuck. One observation I did make was that the more the lecturer papped on the heavier my eye lids got-thus proving matter can be created!
