I was too young to see him play unfortunately, but I've met him many times as I was mates with his son at school.

Roy used to do a bit of scouting after his playing days were over,so I've had the pleasure of travelling all over the place to see games with him and his lad.

He was always an absolute gent and the total respect he was shown at every ground we visited speaks volumes.

Just been suggested on Friends Of Manny Road. 58th minute on Friday night, a 1 min round of applause for Roy, and the rest of the FA Cup winning side that has passed on.

Undies likes.

RIP to a true Bolton legend.

I picked up his autobiography for my Dad last christmas. I've heard quite a few stories about Roy and his fierce tackling!

He'll be up there enjoying a pint with Nat, Eddie Hopkinson, Speedo and all the other BWFC heroes right now.

Had the pleasure of meeting Roy a few times in the Directors guests lounge a few years ago - Lovely bloke, always had time to say hello & if you prompted him he'd have a chat about the old days. Modest guy considering what he achieved.

Last time I saw Roy was at the unveiling of Nats statue. He was in a wheelchair and he was talking to Syd Farrimond. Got a lump in my throat, it fetched back great memories for me when I thought about them playing together at Burnden Park.      Grandad  (Rochdale Whites)

RIP Roy, like our Nat, never heard anyone say a bad word about either, whether they were Bolton fans or not. Our clubs been through some tough time of late but tomorrow's a chance for us all to come together & show everyone just what it means to be part of the club we love....

One family, one love, one BWFC!!

Think Roy came from Brierley Hill area in the West Midlands and we signed him from Bromsgrove Rovers.

One thing forgotten is how well he could kick a football, he wasn't just a hard tackler.

He could land a ball on a sixpence from 50 yards.

Talking to my old man last night about Hartle, he reckoned he could take a goal kick at one end of the ground, and clear the crossbar at the other,
