Qatar World Cup

Right - forgetting the bent bidding process and the conditions of the migrant workers building the stadiums - does anybody else agree that a Nov/Dec competition has the potential to be ace?

Firstly because it will take up most of the traditional Christmas bullshit season so we'll all be talking about football and not festivities. Secondly just for the novelty factor. And thirdly because we can see whether or not our well worn excuse about our players being tired stands up to scrutiny.

Do the gammons on here want Evatt out for encouraging our players to take the knee btw?

Not sure. What do you pansies want?

Some do.

Denmark have, at least, won something more recently than we have.

And they didn't even qualify

Let's just get one thing straight

Us taking the knee, Germany putting their hands over their mouths didn't have any effect on the outcome of their results whatsoever, If you think it did, you really are a thicko

Carry on with that line of attack and you may get an invitation to study at the Nob In Crawley school of condescension.

Fuck me, we've probably got another 2 years of this argument.

So big games are only big games if we are playing so called big teams?

Are we saying success in Italia 90 was a myth?

And we only beat the Dutch in 96? So that was crap too?

They are still big occasions but I think, if we're honest, we'd probably all accept the likes of Brazil, France, Italy, etc. pose a greater challenge than Sweden, Denmark, Colombia, etc. and that has to be taken into account surely?

Obviously, people will enjoy the tournament more if we reach the latter stages but I think that's a separate thing to the sporting achievement.

There's no better options available. And the top managers don't want to be an international manager until their OAPs. He's built something good here, when he took over a lot of people had enough of England.

Needs to address how we started games here though. Heard on radio that before games he lets Kane do the teamtalks and he says nowt, I'd imagine that's a bit 'hey you guys'.

So you wouldn’t expect us beat Denmark….at home?

And for those all blaming the ref for defeat on Saturday, was he any better than the Denmark ref & the 'phantom' penalty he gave us ?

Italia 90 😂 again we beat every team we were expected to (or drew) and the 50/50 one we lost.

Surely you can see the pattern?

No, I think that was a reference to the teamtalk in the dressing room just before going out and that's pretty much standard now.

Managers tend to go through their teamtalks/tactical strategy earlier in the week.

It's the new Brexit.

It's got nowt to do with football, just as Brexit had nothing to do with giving money back to the NHS.

Out for football reasons.  I don't care about the other stuff.

Speaking of changing Southgate The FA could do with looking at what the ECB did when appointing McCullum, this is exactly what the FA need to do, look for a positive attacking coach who isn't afraid of the opposition and who takes opponents head on with a bold front foot approach.

They can take the knee forever… if they can win the big matches that really matter.

Might as well let Rosie Jones do it in that case.

Sorry, cheap gag. (not sorry)

Southgate be challenging them to table tennis games next. 🤣

Pretty obvious that some people just don’t like Southgate and never will regardless of what he does or achieves. That France match was the first time I can remember when I actually felt like we had a genuine chance to win a World Cup. If people want to go back to the chaos we saw under previous high profile managers then so be it.

Some of us felt as soon as we played a proper team we’d lose, we did, he’s a lovely fella and got us on a steady footing but we need someone to turn us from perennial losers to winners. See Mculllum at the cricket and as I said earlier in a BWFC perspective he’s a Phil Neal, we now need a Bruce Rioch.

who would you suggest we go for mate?

bearing in mind we've had some very high profile managers who've managed our so called 'golden generation' who never got past the 1/4 finals

one year we never qualified for the euros

I’d be drawing up a shortlist based on what we are looking for off the top of my head.

experienced and successful at club and at some experience at international or champs league level.

someone with experience but not at the end of his career.

someone with experience of British players and  our mentality.

someone with a proven back room team.

someone with a record of playing attractive attacking football.

someone without ego and a team collective mentality.

I’ve not really had a close look at who this might point to but this gives a template as to what we need.
