Qatar World Cup

Right - forgetting the bent bidding process and the conditions of the migrant workers building the stadiums - does anybody else agree that a Nov/Dec competition has the potential to be ace?

Firstly because it will take up most of the traditional Christmas bullshit season so we'll all be talking about football and not festivities. Secondly just for the novelty factor. And thirdly because we can see whether or not our well worn excuse about our players being tired stands up to scrutiny.

I think it's time we gave a manager from an ethnic minority a chance at international level.

We can do all the kneeling we want, but until we start to show some leadership on this, it's mainly just all talk.

Someone like Sol Campbell could do a good job. Has football management experience, understands international football inside out and would be a great role model for any of the younger centre halves.

I’d have a woman. Very good at organising. Sort this lot out straight away.

Which you conveniently missed out

“Neither have done both so you’re guessing”.

You’re guessing that they would be no good for England.

“Southgate has done both and has  nothing to show, I’m not guessing”

Im not guessing that Southgate’s has been no good for both as his trophy compilation shows that.

You're guessing that Jose would be good for England given he's never managed at international level

Next week's lesson: rocket science

No I’m giving an alternative. I’ve not said he would be good but if you want to pick a manager pick one with some credentials. You have written off two of the most successful managers in recent history who would get to manage the best set of players we have had in years 🤦🏻🤦🏻

Next weeks lesson - how to avoid a 🤡 badge.

I think they are both club managers, happy with that, and don't want to step up to international level

Klopp has distanced himself from the Germany job, when he would seem to be an obvious candidate, why would he go for the England job?

Jose is on a downward plain. Look at his career progression in the last few years, it's a downward spiral

I'd expect a child to keep posting clown badges as part of a response, but we are where we are

For me, Southgate has been our best manager in recent decades. Deserves a chance to stay on for the Euros if he wants to. Plus I can’t really see who we would replace him with.

Can empathise with those saying we always bottle it though. Just feels we don’t have it in us when it’s there for the taking. France had that confidence even when they were shite and you could see it in the Croats when they went a goal down in extra time. I thought we lost our heads when we equalised and lacked the composure and confidence to finish them off. Similar to going a goal up against Italy.

One of the worst referees I’ve seen at a WC. No control of the game.

Sometimes I wish I didn’t care so much. England and Bolton in the same day was tough to take.

I never said he would go for the England job I was just applying your logic.

Say Southgate goes tomorrow, who would you want?

The emoji is easier for you to understand.

I find it difficult to have a strong view on Southgate. We have done better in qualifying and the actual tournaments than any time I can remember. But it is all a bit vanilla and after 4 or 5 tournaments is it time to risk something different ?
Yesterday was a prime example. We did well but not well enough. If he was not a football manager he would be a mid level bank manager with a company car and good pension deal. Delivering well against budget. staff training would be upto date and complementary audit reports. At weekends spends time with kids and his missus loves voting on Strictly Come Dancing.

But never a dragon. He is Smithers-Jones.

You were banging the drum for Jose long before I joined the conversation

If Southgate goes, which I hope he doesn't, then I can say Pep. Whether he's available, wants it, affordable etc I don't know

It's a bit like when fans turn on a manager then others say who do you want then. Well given fans aren't privy to finances, can't tap up managers then its a pointless exercise.

I did have to look at what the emoji meant as I've never seen a grown adult use it before

So no to Klopp or jose because they have only excelled at club level. But yes to Pep who has only excelled at club level.

I think the 🤡 emoji is pretty self explanatory in this instance.

Never said no to klopp or Jose as only having excelled at club level

But you knew that anyway

So when asked if Klopp would be good for  England you said

no

Club football is what he excels at

Club football is what Jose used to excel at

So what do you mean? Surely club football is what Pep Excels at?

Just remembered that GS got us relegated to Nations League B

Anyway

He can stay because I can't be bothered thinking of an alternative

We really have tried everything over the years

But still the same old story for us last night

6th best team in Europe at a push

Whatever

I wasn't commenting whether I thought Klopp was good for England

I was saying whether realistically he'd take it. Which I suspect he wouldn't. He's distanced himself from the Germany job and prefers club football where he can buy players from wherever to suit his style of play. Not getting landed with a bunch of players and told to work with that

I think Jose takes the same stance

They stick to what they know

My Pep comment was tongue in cheek

Get your application in

Over the past 40 years I can’t remember too many World Cup matches where we outplayed truly top class opposition. In fact we generally limp out with whimper. We’ve probably had more talented squads and higher profile managers in the past but none have been able to deliver the type of performance we saw last night. For me Southgate absolutely deserves a crack at the Euros with a group who clearly still want him.

Spot on, but the site 'tards will just look at the result. Some will also say Jose would've led us to a 1-0 victory.
