Qatar World Cup

Right - forgetting the bent bidding process and the conditions of the migrant workers building the stadiums - does anybody else agree that a Nov/Dec competition has the potential to be ace?

Firstly because it will take up most of the traditional Christmas bullshit season so we'll all be talking about football and not festivities. Secondly just for the novelty factor. And thirdly because we can see whether or not our well worn excuse about our players being tired stands up to scrutiny.

I’d be drawing up a shortlist based on what we are looking for off the top of my head.

experienced and successful at club and at some experience at international or champs league level.

someone with experience but not at the end of his career.

someone with experience of British players and  our mentality.

someone with a proven back room team.

someone with a record of playing attractive attacking football.

someone without ego and a team collective mentality.

I’ve not really had a close look at who this might point to but this gives a template as to what we need.

I think I know just the person who ticks the majority of those boxes 😉

Put Ben Stokes in charge

I know you're messing but you have a point.

Reading about the Cricket set up it seems is very similar to the one Southgate has fostered.

Wellbeing is uppermost in what they do.. People want to play for Stokes and Southgate.

And that’s why I’d let Southgate decide what he wants to do, for example if he wants to continue with the set up in a different role.

And then see if Pep is ready from 2025.

I’d take Klopp over Jose. Thinking about it Klopps the perfect choice.

Gareth Southgate.

just been on SSN that southgate hasnt made his decision yet and the FA have no interest in letting him go

So you wouldn’t expect us beat Denmark….at home?

aye, I was more hopeful than most games, but it's still a big game, being the semis

I don't think we're any better than the following and wouldn't expect us necessarily to win (but at least give us a game)

Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal

we also just couldn't turn up against

Belgium, Dutch, Croatia

and expect a win

so whilst it's dissapointing, and we have a strong squad, so do the others

having the strongest league doesn't mean we have the strongest team

and we have won big games, but not tournaments, but we never do, so don't see any manager coming in who could take us to that next level, just keep working on this squad as we have been doing

I'd want an English manager for an English team. Hated having Sven and Fabio.

If you believe that taking the knee sends the wrong message, then I'd argue having a foreign manager sends a far worse one.

My list of criteria for the next England manager

English

Plays the best football on the planet

No teams have ever beat him

Never had a shot against any of his teams

no affiliation to any young current England players

must dress excellently

must love the Monarchy

must only take 2 max right backs.

must always always make the right decision

Not too old

Not too young

not too middle aged

no yellow teeth

must have own teeth

must like gravy

must not drink pints of wine

must never use a brolly

waistcoat only if its a Stoney.

over 6ft tall

not over 6ft3 tall

not fat

not skinny

No DMB's

No kopites

Must have won every trophy as a player

must have won every trophy as a manager

never ever failed

does charity work

eats a roast on Sundays

Thats it, kept it nice and short. That should keep everyopne happy....for now.

One big difference between them and us is They’ve all recently won a major tournament.

Aye, which is why I have them all down as better than us

That and they're all in nations league A

Some do.

Denmark have, at least, won something more recently than we have.

Don’t we laugh at Wigan for suggesting they’re bigger than Bolton because they won a major cup competition more recently than our four wins in the same cup competition?

How come we are not in nations league A?

because we dont care about it

we got relegated

I wouldn't be too arsed if Southgate decided to leave, but I don't see anyone oustanding who I think could do better (and I've been a big Jose fan in the past, but since Utd he's lost his touch I'd say, not sure he'd be a short term fix or even if that is what we need)

apparently they've been researching his replacement for 3 years, it's all part of a "project", I don't expect him to go and for us to go down the route of a big proven name like we did with Sven and Capello anytime soon

(and I've just done some googling and apparently the names in the frame may well be Pochettino, Rodgers, Howe and Steve Cooper, so no thanks)

it took Deschamps 6 years as part of a "project" to win the WC

it took Low 8 years with another 2 as assistant as part of a "project" to win the WC

GS has got two years left, which takes us up to the euros, he can have it for me, and see what happens, the likes of Foden, Saka and Bellingham will be even better by then - we've come this far with him and I belive it's a project, so why start again now
