birch-chorley Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) Granted PG was nothing without BSA but alternatively I'm sure you would agree that BSA would have done fuck all here without the backing of PG / ED bringing him In initially then financially supporting him Beyond our means!!!  Surely you can give them both credit for that?  Since then you blame them for mistake after mistake.  Hindsight is a great thing, I take it you opposed the appointments of LSL, Megson, Coyle, Dougie and Lenny then? Apart from Megson, if my memory serves me correctly the rest of the appointments were generally well received at the time. In fact I'd go as far to say that the Coyle, Dougie and Lenny appointments were seen as great coups at the time by many fans.  I'm assuming you knew they'd all be shite at the time then? Well done you!!  PG & ED not fans??? Do you really thinknED would pump tens of millions into a lost cause as we were (the banks wouldn't touch us as we were too high risk) without being a fan  I'm sure there are plenty of things that could have been done better, especially if we had the benefit of hindsight (which none of us have) but your tin foil hat routine is an embarrassment to this club Edited October 9, 2015 by birch-chorley Quote

burndenpaddock Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Where are these lists and polls of worst run football clubs? I can think of at least 30 clubs in the football league that would be above (or below) us. Quote

RONNIE PHILLIPS Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 So I would assume that when we were qualifying for Europe the same polls would have had us as one of the best run clubs? ( with the same 2 people in charge) Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 There's clubs we've competed with for years now in the Conference. These clubs should never have competed with us the reason they did was because we went down the route we're currently going down again. Quote

Everyone BUT Gartside was shocked when he was appointed. We had some big names interested (Souness in case you dispute that, who walked away because of the highly irregular role of an agent being involved in the interviewing process, down to Gartside surely?). What did our arrogant Chairman say 'People in football will understand', Where s this football genius now?  We've ignored the fact he plumped for Sammy Lee first, many thought good coach, no for manager. But Gartside lauded him and tried to make out he would be better than Sam. hindsight my arse.  Then because he made a massive mistake with Megson he appeased the fans with Coyle. Yes hindsight here the guy was a clueless twat and fooled us all. But surely if Gartside was as good as you seem to think and worth his salt he might have known better than the ordinary peasant? Seems not.  Then after signing off on Coyle's excesses that have done more to fuck us up than anything he waited too long sacking him and brought in Freedman. Freedman was nowhere near the front runners at first and cam from left field. I wasn't sure certainly didn't see it as a great coup (Palace fans were already saying he'donly had a run of about 12 decent games whist there) So we trusted the man paid to make these decisions. And how did that work out?  Lenny? Well he was lucky in that other clubs had passed on him and he wanted a chance managing in England at that particular time. but yes good choice most fans thought.  Also who's to say somebody else wouldn't have put money in had Gartside not staged his coup and brought Eddie on board? I would say though that no other manager but allardyce could have done that for us. you find it bizarre I don't rate Gartside, I think its even more bizarre to try and take the credit from Sam but there you go. Quote
Eavesy Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 90% of the away stand at Burnley was singing Owen coyles name when he was manager of burnley. Quote
snowball Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 90% of the away stand at Burnley was singing Owen coyles name when he was manager of burnley. Yes they were, and giving Megson absolute dogs abuse, the irony of that is not lost on me. But don't we have people on top money who are supposed to rise above that? Quote
mickbrown Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Still think Coyle was a bit unlucky.  Losing 3 of our best players to injury/near death ripped the bollox from that side. Quote

DaveTheRave Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I've heard Gartside had nothing to do with employing Allardyce as he was completely new to the job and more experienced members of the board did it. Â ED wasn't involved as he didn't own the club yet. Â Who knows though. Â I don't. Quote

birch-chorley Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Snowball, please read my post properly, I said....  "Apart from Megson, the rest of his appointments were generally well recieved"  You've then gone on rambling about he wasn't well recieved?  Do you honestly think Souness would have gone down a great deal better? Jesus Christ, he's hated by Bolton fans, there would have been uproar  So you think based on OC taking a tin pot Burnley to the Premiership then having a decent start PG & ED should have known he wasn't cut out for it?? That's bonkers  Incidentally when OC had us pushing the top half again for twelve months there weren't many complaints from us fans - I guess PG should have foreseen what was coming and sacked OC as soon as he got manager of the month in the Prem  If as you say PG can take no credit whatsoever for the good times then surely he can also take no blame for the bad? I am as bored of this argument as no doubt you are. So this is the last one. I don't agree most of the managers appointed by Gartside were 'well received'. i think  Souness would have been a much better choice than Megson (not hard I know) and would have won the fans over like Lennon has. And being pig headed I am not happy with the state of the club and blame Gartside for big chunk of it. Quote
