Town Centre Latest

Just had a meeting on Churchgate. Sad to see the Bolton News offices empty. And in a week or two the Travel Counsellors building opposite will be empty. Another 200+ people spending approx £20 per week on parking and lunches in the town... plus whatever other services they spend their hard-earned on - all being lost. Very sad state of affairs.

When will it get better? Should these empty offices be turned into apartments?

If you go in town for a drink surely you go in the old man & scythe for at least one cider

If I was on my own I used to, but one day Mrs.F came with me and mithered my head off when I said I was having another. All afternoon she went on. No wonder I had a bad head in the morning.

In the 70s me and my mate used to go in the Albion and there was usually a trip going somewhere. Stag do, 21st anything. Someone would shout 'two seat on a coach to....

We were always first on.

Hunter's is the thinking man's bakery. And only a 2 minute walk to Bolton's best chippy by a country mile, Bennett's Lane.

Just seen this picture of the owner on Facebook.

Look at them prices! 🤣

How old is the picture?

We went out for a walk late afternoon and called in our local chippy, we don’t use it that much as we try to eat healthier, and had a portion of chips between us.

£3.50. Three pound fucking fifty.

Olympus do a "large" portion for £3.10

Not sure how big "large" actually is!

Yeah that's a super old picture. I went to primary school with his lad.

Remember I missed this chippy so much after being at Smithills, that I got my mates at Turton Sixth Form to drive us over for a chip barm as the chippy on that parade of shop near Turton was shit.

Wasn't a good idea before two hours modern British history though, couldn't keep awake on a Thursday afternoon!

It's from last week I think.

I have no idea how they still operate as a business 🤣

Plus they're only open for about 4 hours a day. Bloody lovely though. It'll be a travesty when it ever closes.

I got a chips, peas and gravy and a cup of tea from Olympus the other week and it was something daft like a tenner.

I didn't realise there is a mother Hubbards up Deane Road way.

Must try it.

When you are down this way Fish Inn Two in Herne Bay is the best chippy for miles. It actually does decent chips. I'm not sure why Soutnerners can do decent chips but it's a rule that they are generally too big, too dry and taste like oven chips.

Don't get me started on Pie and Mash - how they have managed to mess this up, I've no idea. Pies are tasteless, mash again really dry, and liquor? It's like pouring wallpaper paste over food.

Ah, right.

Thanks for the heads up.

Are they serving tilapia dressed as cod?

Would you mind differentiating the real south from the cockerknee land you frequent.

Anyhow, up for MiL’s birthday and Nicks at Turton Golf Club gets a thumbs up even if chips weren’t crispy.

I've got no idea mate. Last time I went in I thought she'd made a mistake when she told me how much it was.

It's not just the prices though - it's bloody lovely as well!

Apart from the fish, which I’m assuming he’s caught in Doffcocker lodge, the other prices are fairly reasonable. He’s probably not a robbing bastard like many other shop owners.
