Town Centre Latest

Just had a meeting on Churchgate. Sad to see the Bolton News offices empty. And in a week or two the Travel Counsellors building opposite will be empty. Another 200+ people spending approx £20 per week on parking and lunches in the town... plus whatever other services they spend their hard-earned on - all being lost. Very sad state of affairs.

When will it get better? Should these empty offices be turned into apartments?

The Food Hall has opened at Bolton Market. Had a mooch around. Didn’t buy anything but it both looks and smells good. Various stalls with a variety of foods and a small bar.  I’ve said previously, t

Had a walk around town the other day. The landscaping between the Town Hall and Black Horse street is pretty impressive. Small steps in the regeneration but going the right way.

I then caught the train to Farnworth to see the completed town centre development. Also very impressive. Nice coffee shop that was popular when I went in.

The refurb was part paid for by sending the egyptology stuff around the world

It was also part funded by the ‘levelling up’ scheme. I just mentioned that for balance.😉

Indeed it was, my comment was more aimed at how impressive he collection at Bolton Museum is that people are willing to pay to bring it to the far east.

Will be riddled with Asbestos....Once cleared it should be turned into a green space and walkway through to both Church gate and Bradshawgate.....Renovate from the Swan down to across from Nelson Square

Demolish and clear everything else all the way down to Manchester Road then build a great fucking wall

We in the town centre yesterday. It was like being abroad. And I don’t mean hot and sunny.

Not lived in Bolton since the end of the 80s, visited a few times but can't say i have been in the town centre since the last season at Burnden.

I can well imagine what its like though just from the state of other places.

The late 70s/early 80s was a great time to be in town as it had something from everyone, probably feels like a no go area now, but that's probably my age and the stories you hear.

Here's one for people around 60 now, Sunday nights! , who used to end up at the Last Drop village?

Was quite a cool scene there at the time, obvs you needed a designated driver but some cool car lads around at that time too. 2.8i capri's , RS's, GTE Astra's, TR7s, MG'S, spitfires Alfasuds/sprints, Dolly sprints are a few i can remember and always some tidy girls there.

For some reason we always used to go to a chippy up the top of COR, maybe doffcocker area???

Was this maybe a late night chippy on a Sunday in those days???? I know baldy afro on deane church lane weren't allowed to sell fish on a Sunday.

Never!

Can't possibly be true that.

First started going into town on a Friday night about 79/80. It was the wild fucking west. Lower Nags pretty much guaranteed a brawl. Swan Cellar was fun outside late on as the mods and rockers started fighting which carried on into running battles on Saturday afternoon

Early 80s was good. Beer crowd did Blue Boar, Three Crowns, Howcroft and Alma. Chilled but hugely pissed. Churchgate, Bank Street and Rockafellas was a great night for music and women

Late 80s/early 90s was brilliant when Chicago House hit Hawthorns. Lived in Warrington at the time but stayed at my mum and dads a lot of Friday nights for a night out in Bolton

Late 90s was superb with Acid House on the scene and Temple/Mondo on the go and I was back living in Bolton

Left in 2002 and not had a night out in town since

Loved going into town for a night out back in those days. Like you say, all through those years there was something for everyone. Times change though. Our generation of boozers has gone. Not what folk want now

Was that blind piano player there then ?

I am currently in the centre of town. Half the shops are empty with homeless in the doorways.

Also the town hall bells just rang 3 minutes late, poor do.

Nah, that's Bolton time!

Been looking online at the foodhall.

Must pay it a visit.

I quite liked it. My post wasn’t really in jest. Location wise Harvey’s is/was a bit out of the way and this is probably an opportunity for them.

Hindus and Muslims bitching over a pub in town. Leave them to it

There was a case a while back where a guy couple sued a b&b for not allowing them to stay at their gaff.

The owners said their decision was based on religious grounds.

The owners lost.
