What actually is the difference between a pie and a pasty?

Old man told me a pie had two pieces of pastry, joined together, whilst a pastie was a sigle piece of pastry, folded together.

He may have been talking shite though.

Stop at Gloucester services on way to Brizzle for the posh farm shop sausage rolls. Different class. Ridiculous prices but different class

Yeah, same owners as Tebay.

I'm not sure price comes into it, you can pay loads or little for both  - I'm assume there is absolutely no difference, other than shape

Cornish pasties are massive, so yes, one pasty can be enough  -  if you're talking about those dogshit Carrs efforts, then no, you need about 3 of them

Had a Cornish pasty from Genie's neck of the woods once fucking thing could've fed a family of 4

Gregs aren't allowed to sell hot food, that's how they keep the prices so low, as you have to pay VAT on hot food. If you get stuff that's just come out of the oven, then you do get hot, but that's all about luck/timing

Quote

As there’s a tax which charges value-added tax (VAT) for hot takeaway food but not for food served cold or cool down, the bakery chain decided to bake fresh, and store for sale throughout the day.

A statement from Greggs explains: "We sell savouries that are freshly baked in our shop ovens, then put on a shelf to cool.

"We don't keep them in a heated environment, use heat-retaining packaging, or market them as hot because of this.

yep, it's weird as proper Cornish pasties are always whopping, but for some reason Northern ones are always minuscule (especially Carrs, who make the smallest pasties in the world)

Been in the town centre today. That pound shop (World of Quid or whatever) is closed, WH Smith is closing  so that row behind the cenotaph now has that trainer shop, the bank and a couple of pop up/charity shops as far as I can make out.

The councilors can now stand at the town hall windows having a brew and jingling their change and looking out on what they have done.

A learned individual into major construction I met through this site explained this to me some years ago. Developers approached a number of towns in the NW offering to completely modernise in return for long term lease arrangements. Bury accepted, Bolton didn't. He advised that the, errrr, Asian heritage gentlemen and ladies on the Bolton council voted against to protect 'their people' and their hold on town centre sites.

I can't comment on the veracity of this advice but, as one who visits infrequently, the degradation has been stark. Looking at the make up of the 'outlets' which remain, albeit fewer and further between, the explanation looks a sound one to me.

We should twin with Islamabad.

We used to call in Hunters when we'd taken a swim group to the Jubile pool. I seem to remember they did cheese (and onion ?) potato cakes which were great.

Wow!! Tried the cheese and onion potato cake the other day. Great recommendation

Utter bullshit.

Bury took the money and let the developers do what they wanted, Bolton was trying to coordinate developments across the whole town. Then the recession happened and no developers were spending anything.

There was no town centre sites to hold on to for those of any heritage.
