Cheese Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 https://youtu.be/W0z_arXZ8nM Have we all gone mad and forgotten this Again, that's not a volley. A volley is when you strike the ball first time, before it's hit the ground. If a Volleyball player received the ball and did a few keep ups before returning it, it would be a foul. That's the easiest way to decide if something is a volley - would it be allowed in Volleyball? (except with the foot instead of the hand obvs) For what it's worth though, Worthy's goal is BETTER than a volley imo. Quote
Anderson Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Have we all gone mad and forgotten this Interesting, what is the concensus on self-assisted volleys? Always not allowed at our school Quote
Cheese Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 (edited) Interesting, what is the concensus on self-assisted volleys? Always not allowed at our school No such thing as a self-assisted volley. Hitting the ball twice consecutively renders it a non-volley (in any sport). Edited February 3, 2016 by Cheese Quote
Elvis Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 (edited) If Undies scored that he would be the first to say what a fuckin volley that was It's a volley for me..... Edited February 3, 2016 by Elvis Quote
Cheese Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 If Undies scored that he would be the first to say what a fuckin volley that was It's a volley for me..... Think our childhood games of Headers and Volleys have tainted all our minds. The fact it's not a volley doesn't make it any less spectacular than a goal scored from an actual volley. Quote

I don't think anyone on here really gives a fuck what the official definition of a volley or half volley is. Good thread though. Quote
jayjayoghani Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Did this really need it's own thread? Fuck me. for someone who said does this need its own thread, you've done about half the posts Cheese! Quote
stevieb Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 It's a sign of the times when the biggest debate on a match night is on the definition of a volley. Quote
Underpants Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Glenn Hoddle circa 1980. If its the one I'm thinking of didn't it start with a keeper hoof and a couple of headers before he wellied it? Never touched the ground until it hit the back of the net. Quote
Eavesy Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Best volley for Bolton? Nolan on half turn at home v someone like Pompey (not the bicycle kick one) Best half volley for Bolton? Henrik v Arsenal at home - definition of a half volley that Quote

Underpants Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Best volley I've seen from a Bolton player was from Dusan Nikolic against Cambridge United. Think we put 5 or 6 past them that day. Corner taken from the Manny Rd/ Embankment end. It floats over to just outside the D on the penalty box. And just like that Alan Mullery goal. Bang, it was in the back of the net. Quote
Sweep Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 https://youtu.be/W0z_arXZ8nM Have we all gone mad and forgotten this I still can't think that it's a massively overrated goal when you put it up against some of the goals scored these days. Certainly a "goal of it's time" Quote

Cheese Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 (edited) even volley ball? where a team is aloud to volley the ball more than once before its return? Yes. A "team" is allowed to volley it consecutively, not an individual player. Edited February 3, 2016 by Cheese Quote
Zico Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 best "volley" for me is this one Sinclair is a better goal, but for some reason, I don't see over head kicks and volleys as the same thing, even though they clearly are, well in that case anyway Quote
mickbrown Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Bloke on Radio this morning described it as a half volley. I had a one way conversation with him where I told him he was a fucking clown Quote

Cheese Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Bloke on Radio this morning described it as a half volley. I had a one way conversation with him where I told him he was a fucking clown Last night I knew it definitely wasn't a volley, but I was certain it was a half-volley until underpants educated me. Some folk just don't want to learn though. Quote
