We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

Based on the fact that we will be in League 2 next season I think we need to be targeting the best young players from non league that we can develop. Relatively cheap/free and very little difference in the standard of football between div 2 and the conference. Loads of players in the conference who have been released from premier league academies who would jump at the chance to get back to a pro club.

We had McEachran on trial over the summer, not really sure what he does, although at league 1 level he could be a decent signing, just don't expect the wonderkid he was supposed to be when he was at Chelsea before his 85 loan spells 😂

His legs are made of balsawood

But yes, we should definitely go down the released youngsters route hungry to prove themselves with perhaps a sprinkling of veteran players for experience

Thought Jem Karacan has only just gone to Australia?

I'd rather we left the recent eras behind, personally. Although I suppose beggars can't be choosers.

My thinking

I don't really think we can be choosers at this moment, any senior player with Championship experience will do

With -11 and probably another point deduction to come, it would be close to a miracle for us to somehow stay up

Anybody know when we're likely to get an idea if there's any money left to spend on players?

We could do with a statement from FV as they must know how concerned we still are.

I'd love O'Neil in a player/coach capacity

He had a one year deal which expired in July. Played ten games out there and scored once.

What we dont want to do is make the same mistake twice and sign players on championship wages/league 1 wages when we are almost certain of going down. As I said earlier miles better to take people on top end of conference/ league 2 wages that will still be with us next year if they are good enough and not too difficult to get rid of if they are not.

Wonder who's choosing any of these players we're about to sign without having a manager? Jimmy?

What do you mean? We can't pay fees as are under embargo. Clearly their plan as approved by the EFL includes player recruitment or the EFL would have refused it.

Keith Cousins lined players up whilst in admin.

If i paid quite a few million for a football club with no manager, the future one would be fully aware of what was needed and what he had to play with for wages.  Then again, they may not of done this or are currently doing it.

Karacan's Mrs is newly pregnant. Would imagine that could mean he is looking to move back to the north west.

looking at his career, I'd be surprised if he bought a house up here after he signed a 1 year deal with us

His missus is from up here, though.

This isn't going to go down well with some folk but there are players available from Bury. Just saying like and they will be looking for a new club. 🙄

Only if he is carrying Le Fondre's bags.

The Bury lads won't be match fit - but if it means us getting some experience in on a short term basis, then why not?

Havent Bury lost most of there players already

90% of the players we sign won't be match fit though. Although I reckon it's overrated anyway, someone like O'Neill and Hobbs will slot straight in.

Given we had 30-somethings Henry and O'Neill, in consecutive seasons, walk in off the street and be our best player, I'd say match fitness is a bit overrated.

No doubt there's a few who haven't found clubs yet?

Might be more trouble than it's worth with the shitstorm it would cause, we're an honourable club again remember :yahoo:
