The difference between Simons, Burstow and Ben is, Simons and Burstow were bit part Championship players. But Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U do sign duds as well.

Rob Holding to Arsenal (he was great for us, but never that level and hardly played anywhere in the last few years).

Liverpool had Nat Phillips in their team for a while (not good enough for the Prem and just an OK championship defender probably).

The vast majority of players we sign won't be ones who played for us/well against us last season or were on loan 4 years ago. Fans need to be a little more imaginative.

If people actually listened to what was being said by Fergal and the club, that would help as well.

This phase of our transfer activity is about picking up the out of contract players that are on the market e.g. Davies and Wilson. Then we move on to negotiating for players who command a fee and then signing loan platyers. That's not to say all that happens in a linear fashion/sequentially, but that's the broad timing. On fee transfers most managers, etc are on holiday including ours presumably. Hundreds of players are also at the World cup and probably every agent, the rest are on holiday. Most teams want to keep players available for loan through pre season just in case they don't get their main targets. We all need to be patient, even though it's frustrating.

But let's keep gossiping about it otherwise we will all get bored 😄.

To be fair Nat was the only centre back they had with functioning legs at the point he got in the side.

Rob Holding was a roaring success compared to most players big clubs have signed from lower league teams. He at least played 100+ games for Arsenal.

Liverpool paid over £4m for Calvin Ramsay and all he's had since is a couple of failed loans in L1.

Andy Kellett going on loan to United is still probably the weirdest one.

Yes, Ramsay was a strange one. We got him on loan and there was nothing to suggest why Liverpool had made (another) odd signing.

Fair play to Holding, he played more than I realised at Arsenal, but he's 30 and he's only made over 15 league appearances in a season twice in his entire career, one here and one at Arsenal.

Adam Webster, Harry Souttar, Djed Spence, Joe Rodon

Theyre all defenders.

They’re all in that range and didn't come from teams that were in the PL the season before.

This is the level now at the top, now many of those went into the PL but they were leading Championship defenders before they did.

There is now a gulf between us and the top Championship teams and we won't ever get near it unless we either take risks or spend sums we both know we don’t have and shouldn’t spend if we did.

I trust FH to help us bridge that gap with quality recruitment.

I agree, I've already seen 'rumours' of people linking us to the likes of Fossey, Dapo etc. like the only players who exist are the ones who've come into our orbit. Sidibeh is another one who wouldn't be getting mentioned if he hadn't scored 1.5 times against us at Wembley.

But equally, only absolute headcases watch a significant number of full football matches that a) don't involve us and b) aren't in the Premier League/Champions League. Given we can't afford players in the latter, it's inevitable that the same names do the rounds.

I reckon I could name fewer than 25 Championship players (minus those who've recently been relegated).

Had to google Karbonik up Right Footed left back who plays in The German Second division. Got three caps for Poland. Was at Brighton who paid 3m for him but never played a game before being loaned out. James Bree is as good as a right back that we could attract. He has plenty Premier and Championship experience. Think most of the Championship would be after him on a free

One of our lot currently away and Sheehan and Christie are there with their families. Christie doing some football camp each morning

Yeah just a chance to get his highlight reel out there, which you’d have to say, certainly has plenty!

He’s another example of BWFC helping propel players into the spotlight and priming them for top flight. Bodes well and I’m sure it doesn’t go unnoticed by Premier League clubs.

I’m sure he’d he open to a return, but ultimately it depends who else is in for him. If the Monaco rumours are true, he seems the sort who’d go overseas and test himself
