Wouldn't be surprised if he turned up at Hudds with his old gaffer Duff. Apparently Cadden had a shite season by his standards but Barnsley were an eccentric looney team last season on & off the pitch.

Didn't his dad work for us in the Megson era? Happy memories? Maybe not.

Yup  - and nowadays Alan is a scout for the England team. Alan had a great career, has a FA Cup winner's medal and been an OK manager - but that apart I think his son Jack has outshone him. Magnificent for Burnley and exactly the kind of leader we could do with, but he's 35 now and I'm not convinced he still has the engine that is integral to his game. That said, Pepe is still the captain of Porto and plays for Portugal at 41 - and is still a class act so who knows?

I think that to get a player of that tenacity, drive, skill, composure and with leadership qualities we would have to look abroad, but it would have to be a helluva sell to bring such a player to Bolton at the moment

Someone should be on the phone to Campo, Stelios and our other foreign "scouts" and see what they can dig up.

Nicky Cadden is a bit meh for me.

Picking up the phone to some old boys from 15 years ago hardly fits our data-driven approach

Glad I didn't suggest Steinsson then :)

Although I'm sure we haven't got data on everyone on the planet and a steer in the right direction might help narrow down the search.

I like data though.

Did you know that 83.7% of facts are made up on the spot with zero supporting evidence?

Data is the reason our players think its fine to stand on the ball in the middle of the pitch when we're losing..

Ah yes we're on 78% possession, never mind we're 2 nil down and their keepers got that bored he's created a hammock using the goal posts..

I’d be disappointed if we didn’t try and use data (or any forward thinking tools) to improve our club.

That said we should be using all the old school resources we have too and should absolutely talking to the stelios and campos of this world. Why wouldn’t we.

Seeing as Williams injured we need a LWB also we still need another midfielder and looks like Charles will not be available for the start of the season so another striker required.

Why can he play LWB as he’s useless as a striker .

I reckon Dan would be a great defender as he always managers to keep the ball clear of the goal

We could always try 4-3-3 with Cogley and Iredale playing in the positions they did for their former clubs

4-3-3 is Evatts preferred formation - so why the frig doesn’t he use/try it?

Because the man is a balloon who thinks he’s some kind of football master

I can see Dan at LWB. Pacey - gets forward well. Good positional sense. Can get his foot in and would probably save us £250,000 on a new player. No brainer to at least let him start off the season there and see how he gets on.

Are all our old players scouts? Just because they were great players for us, in our golden generation, doesn't mean they have any ability to identify players now.

What about Nakata, Djorkaeef, Jussi, N'gotty, Anelka, Diouff? Why aren't we talking to everyone.

Yeah I agree anyone or everyone connected in any sort of way. Not that bothered about the legend status.

Those 2 were sounded out merely as connections into 2 countries we probably have no foothold in.

If they are still involved with football, in any capacity around developing players, then yes, maybe we should, but other than that the only reason we should be in contact with most of our old players is for events and memorial matches etc.

Being a great player at a club, does not give you any automatic ability to become a talent scout.

But are they still involved with football and scouting or developing players?

If not then we should also include Stavros and Manuel as contacts that could open up routes into those countries

Stelios is 100% involved. Campo I’m not so sure but even if he can open some door to players with curly hair then the call is worth making

Think campo is a big cheese at mallorca with Stuart holden.
